And I'd just like to say for the record that the federal government can take those taxes and choke on them, the greedy fUcks.

I'm not poor anymore! Huzzah!

Heh, now that you've seen the bite Uncle Sam takes out of your hard earned cash, how does this affect your thinking on issues that are taxation heavy like universal healthcare, welfare, Congressional pay increases, and the like? Sucks, doesn't it?

You guys should try France if you think your taxes are too high... Seriously, the UK has one of the lowest tax rates in Western Europe.

And it shows.

Grats Demea! Don't spend it all at once.

What I find ironic about this whole taxation thing is that the people that collect your taxes, monitor how much you earn, and are themselves paid by government (i.e. your taxes), they have to pay taxes on their income as well.

We do? How come it's cheaper for me to get on a ferry at Dover, visit Mammouth at Cite Europe and stock up on beer, ****, petrol, cheese, etc. even including the ferry ticket?

I don't make enough to be in the "oh god why!" tax bracket. I wish I did, because even though I'd pay more taxes, I'd still see more actual take home income.

Having to pay $30 more in taxes for healthcare would mean I wouldn't be paying that $30 per paycheck premium for healthcare. S'all good.

Since I'm still paying student loans I see a lot more back at refund time than I would otherwise, cuz the US deducts any interest paid on student loans from taxable income on top of the standard deduction.

My actual tax rate, after refunds etc, turns out to be around 10%. Which is, like, a fraction of what Europe has to pay.

Because the UK, along with Scandinavia, is one of the most expensive places in Europe. It's true that cigarettes and petrol are taxed heavily here, but booze isn't especially.

Wages are lower in most of the EU, and so are prices. But they pay more tax comparatively.

There are usually 3 bands of taxation, depending on your wage: lower, middle and higher.

In the UK, it's basically 0% for lower, 20% for middle, and 40% for higher.

In Germany, it's 0%, 42% and 45% respectively.

Italy is 23%, 33% and 42%.

Here's a sample of the income tax for some European countries.

It's even worse if you measure capital gains, inheritence, property, etc...

It should change his thinking to understand that taxes are abject theft, regardless of what they pay for. Hopefully, he'll use some of that new wealth to fund those who advocate for smaller government and more limited taxation.

I know France has, but I'm not sure about the rest.

I assume all EU countries that have universal healthcare would have it in some form or another, but I'm not sure. Nobbs might know.

I would kill to have a healthcare system like the UK. My cousin says it's like Heaven compared to the states. In our eyes in the US that's how the government should take care of it's people. It's like revising the Articles of Confederation just to get a sprained ankle looked at. Really a bunch of *********
