"threatening, abusive or insulting" and will land you with a court summons.

A teenager is facing prosecution for using the word "cult" to describe the Church of Scientology.

The unnamed 15-year-old was served the summons by City of London police when he took part in a peaceful demonstration opposite the London headquarters of the controversial religion.

"'Within five minutes of arriving I was told by a member of the police that I was not allowed to use that word, and that the final decision would be made by the inspector."

A policewoman later read him section five of the Public Order Act and "strongly advised" him to remove the sign. The section prohibits signs which have representations or words which are threatening, abusive or insulting.

The teenager refused to back down, quoting a 1984 high court ruling from Mr Justice Latey, in which he described the Church of Scientology as a "cult" which was "corrupt, sinister and dangerous".

After the exchange, a policewoman handed him a court summons and removed his sign.

[...]

A spokeswoman for the force said today: "City of London police had received complaints about demonstrators using the words 'cult' and 'Scientology kills' during protests against the Church of Scientology.

"Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service some demonstrators were warned verbally and in writing that their signs breached section five of the Public Order Act.

"One demonstrator continued to display a placard despite police warnings and was reported for an offence under section five. A file on the case will go to the CPS."

A CPS spokesman said no specific advice was given to police regarding the boy's placard.

Apparently the POA takes precedence over the European Convention on Human Rights which guarantees freedom of expression. The whole thing stinks - not just because by any dictionary definition Scientology definitely counts as a cult as much as a religion. City of London police from Constables to Chief Superintendants have been accepting charity donations and free lunches from the cu- religion.

I read that story a couple of days ago. It's a fUcking disgrace. I hope he wins and sues them for billions of ££s. Which won't happen, unfortunately.

Yesterday I was walking on Tottenham Court Road, near Warrent Street station, where they have their crappy shop. There have tables outside, where they get people to do their questionnaires telling them they're depressed. And on those tables, they had those silly electro-machine thingies, with the metallic handles, and two random people were there, being tested. It really felt freakish and cultish. I felt like saying something, or doing a running kick on the testers, or jumping on the table screaming "I AM THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE!!" but then I remembered this boy' sotry and thought better of it.

One day, though. One day.

I agree, it strikes me dumbfounded as to how people believe that 13,000 years ago the evil galactic warlord Xenu dropped people into our volcanoes and from the ash the people have been reborn here on earth awaiting the mother ship to collect them.

Very scary knowing that our celbrities who have a major effect on those people who cling to that desire of lifestyle are so heavy into it.

Grade A +1 on "Cult" for sure. Tom Cruise is their poster boy. Katie Holmes actually looks like she has been brainwashed, almost like a Stepford Wife lol.
