its true. i would love to see a WoW clone with AoC graphics.
call it a "generic" mmorpg if you want, but its what most of us want, time friendly "just for fun" game play. thats why WoW has 11 million subscribers and all the rest couldnt reach 1 million all added together.
and i find it funny people criticizing "solo" game play. thats about all you find in EQ1 to this day unless uoi consider multi boxing as grouping. in AoC there is one quest where you have to kill a spacific mob, and instead of every one grouping and getting credit for one kill, they stand around and gank it as soon as it pops.
its what most people want.
LOTR sucked because they tried to stay true to the story line. well, that and it was a small world with a common starting area and really sucky casters. infact, the only differance between LOTR and AoC is the size of the world, better graphics, naked tits, profanity and blood spatter.
the game play is identical. complete with the sucky casters. but LOTR had DWARFS. infact the game play is identical with all of them. whack-a-mole for loot and levels. only WoW had enough foresight to realize "just for fun" stuff translates into something to do when whack-a-mole gets seriously boaring.
my issue isnt really with dwarfs, but the lack of diversity in races. you play a human. period. call it story line, call it licensing, call it mission statement, call it whatever you want. its like going to a car dealer and all they sell is one model of car. they can stick to their guns of they want, but most people wont care, they will walk to some plece that has DWARFS. as soon as they get their fill of liiking at some of the nicest animated tits anywhere. they even made them sway side to side when they run. they really are nice.
the casters are just very unintersting. instead of using majic to controll the fight, all you do is stand their with spell induced tanking ability, ie, damage sheilds or life taps, and spam your spell button while they beat on you, or swing your weapon while they beat on you. and untill you get your first damage sheild, casters really suck wind. you get an even con double pull, all you can do is load the dots and your pet on one and run and hope the first mob dies before you run out of stamina and cant sprint anymore.
atleast with the melee classes you can dismember and behead. casters just get some swirly spell graphics and a spell induced tanking ability. your pet doesnt tank. the second your pet or any damage at all affects the mob, they ignore your pet and come straight for you and your damage sheild and spell spamming buttons to trade hitpoints till one of you drops.
yawn.
EQ1 really did do casters well. untill they started "ballancing" them anyway. then all they were good for was healing. but atleast they had some cool abilities. like snare, root, levitate, slow, and a hoste of others. personally, i think casters shouldnt have any tanking ability and solely rely on their spell abilities to controll a fight, ie, use your head, as opposed to standing there swapping hitpoints till one of you dies while spamming gee wiz buttons.
button spamming is why EQ2 sucked so bad. atleast they didnt make that button smashing last forever like in EQ2 by making mobs with insane hitpoints. there is atleast that. short fights.
just my openion.
BTW almost everyone i have seen ingame solos. very little grouping. like most games. what few people i do see anyway.
suggestions,
1. more starting areas
2. fix the casters so they are casters and not spell induced tanks/fighters
3. add some just for fun stuff.
4. dwarfs.
