"The emphisis on the so called gore and sex is what turns me off the most to AoC." --Gitslayer

You know, dude, they can prescribe some testosterone creme to help you with that big gigantic vag you're developing between your legs. Allow me to remind you what makes us guys guys: Beer, sex, women, sex, gore, beer, sex, tits, a$$, beer, pu55y, sex, and ummm, oh yeah, sex.

Remember any of that stuff? Time for you, my friend, to head to the produce aisle and pull a redheaded stripper. It's for your good.

Well somehow I picked up a pre-order copy sitting on the shelves 4 days early. I am trying ot patch on early access day, which is not going too well. Lucky if I can play today, but most likely not until the servers open on the 20th. I'll let you know then if anyone is interested.

I was bored at work today and read a thread on AoC and the regulars on that forum had a lot of folks in the beta and the early access the last couple of days. I checked out some YouTube footage as well so I decided to pick up a copy at GameStop.

I asked the clerk if he had a pre-order version to sell me so that I could have the free mammoth mount. He said he didn't have any pre-orders, but he DID have a few pre-order key codes to get the free mount and he gave me one of those. That was very cool of him since he didn't have to do it. I'll be riding a mammoth to give tusk enemas to my enemies and hear the lamentations of their women.

Of course, not giving up on WoW at all now that I'm actually raiding, but AoC will be a fun diversion. I'll probably be on the Thog server, as that's where the folks from that msg board are playing. I'm installing the game now but I probably won't be able to get on until tomorrow.

Sooo, being the first person to admit they are playing you need to tell us how it is (once you actually play).

I finally finished downloading and installing the Early Access yesterday, at 16h00, so a good 8 hours before the official launch! That was well worth 2 days of non-stop downloading.

So I played a bit last night, and had a blast! The only downside is you need a really good machine. The game was as laggy as the first time I went to Ironforge with my crappy old PC. One minute you're entering the gate, the next you're in the trench ice-skating against a wall. I'm buying some more RAM and a new graphics card, which should help quite a bit.

The good side is that even with my crappy card and low RAM, I had a lot of fun. The customizing of characters is really good, very detailed, very precise, and you can get some very distinct looks. Especially for female characters. Tare, my lvl 5 demonologist is devilishly hot Any resemblance to any other real or fictious character is purely coincidental, ofc. It's not like WOW where all NE females basically looked exactly the same.

After 1h30 of playing around with the different shapes and tatoos of scantily-clad women, I finally went in-game. You're basically taken by the hand and led through the first few levels, it doesn't feel as free as WOW, there's not much discovering to be done, at least at first. But I heard it was just for those first levels, like a long introduction into the mechanics of the game.

The combat system is really pretty cool, more involved, the gore is actually quite fun, and you can do some pretty cool moves, even at lvl 6, which make you go "ooooh, nifty!". If you speak like this, of course, which I don't, I'm much more manly, I say "Fockin 'ell bruv, that's rock hard!!" or something. So yeah, anyway, the combat is a lot of fun, and the whole thing of not being able to go through someone's body is very refreshing, and seems to work ok.

Having only played enough to take 4 classes to level 6, I can't say much about how the game develops later on, nor the PvP, nor the imbalances that people are already whining about in gen chat. But if you can get past that, and you have a really good computer, it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

I installed the 2 DVDs it came with last night, and only patched about 750MB this morning before it allowed me to enter the game.

So far, I'm not really impressed with what I've seen, although, I've not seen more than 10 minutes on the newbie island, killing Crocodiles and random thugs.

13GB, I think, but that was the whole game, in order to play Early Access without the CD.

I know, I know, and BT with Vanguard, the history of MMO is filled with games that look good and die quickly. Might still happen to this one, without a doubt. I'm just glad I got something new to play with, Civ4 was getting repetitive.

Thanks, I'll have to wait and see I suppose. Only got 12 GB of download for an entire month, so this might be tricky Smiley: grin, especially since I've already used up half of that.

bought the game.

13g? try 25gigs. and you need 27 gigs available just to install it.

installataion went well. took about 2 hours to patch with DSL.

thats about all i can tell you. when i try loading it, the screen flickers, the sound is choppy, and the graphics do a slide screen show in what looks like out of focus 8 bit color blocks jerking across the screen.

online support? gotta have a subscription first. personally, im of the mind set you make it work BEFORE i pay. so cant go to the official web forums to ask for help. no phone tech. and the link for the e-mail tech doesnt work.

already updated my video driver, which is sure what looks to be the problem. but apparently it wasnt.

if anyone has a link to a forum site where i can get some tech help, i would appreciate it posted here. otherwise, i may just uninstall it, shelve it till next month when i upgrade from my current AMD 5000, 2 gigs ram, and x1600 pcie with 512 ram to the new quad core AMD chip.

i seriously doubt its my box, but im not going to give them a dime more untill i see it load up. certainly not going to buy a subscription to get some help to get their POS running. AO looked better when it first launched. hope others here are doing better with it.

It looks absolutely amazing with an 8600gt, even on medium settings. I'm averaging only 30fps which isn't great, but not too bad either.

When you register your key, you should gain access to the forums. Go to the register.ageofconan.com and then click on the forum piece about setting your password. That should get you in. The forums are not available if you don't have a key at this point.

i understand limiting the forums to players, it gets rid of a whole lot of troll posting from people who feel the need to bash the game because its not what they play like you get in this forum.

however,

not gona register till i see it working. not gona buy a g-force card either. shouldnt have to.

mabe they should atleast open up a tech help forum to the public or do something with their seriously lacking tech help page. like mabe make the e-mail link work, pay someone to answer phones, or add something more sustantial to it other than a hand full of general tips like upgrading your driver and shutting off fire wall.

not gona pay till i see it work.

well, gona uninstall it, defrag and reinstall it. if i cant find some online helpfull information on how to get it working without paying....again....and reinstallation doesnt do it, gona shelve it untill i upgrade.

i hear D&D online is up to 16 levels now, mabe ill try that if i cant get it to work.

simple yours did not have the info mine does. really that simple. so rate as you wish, but you did not have the size of the install, nor the size of the initial patch that is required to download nor the write up from the BBC. so push off *******. i brought valued information to this thread.
