I watched "High Fidelity" again last night.

I loved the book - Nick Hornby at his trivial, silly, blokish best. When I heard the movie would be transposed from London to Chicago I was gutted.

In fact, I went to see it twice when it was released. The screenplay & direction were faithful to the spirit of the book, and John Cusack was superb.

It was only last night when I watched it again I saw the main protagonist as Smasharoo for the whole movie.

Funnily enough, it maintained my perceptions of the character and Smash from start to finish. Smiley: cool

Haha.

Nexa hated it.

So, basically confirms everything you say.

Fever Pitch is my favorite Hornsby book, though I like almost all of his work. It's also the most nightmarishly bad Americanization of an English film ever. I never got around to watching About a Boy, have you seen that one?

It's a bit syrupy at times, but Hugh Grant plays. . . erm. . . Hugh Grant (which he does well). S'OK, but a bad guilt trip for any parent of an adolescent son.

hmm, has Smash talked to you at length about his exes? If so, I can understand the comparison...

Yeah, but anything with Toni Collette is worth watching at least once.

I love this movie so much. But I'm a big sap. It is one of my favorites, partly b/c I like the soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy.

I don't care for Hornby's writing, personally, but I liked High Fidelity as a movie. Now I'll have to see it again to see if I see a little Smash in the mix. =)

It's very lad-centric. Not that I'm reducing your literary criticism to your gender, but I can't stand Ann Lamont's novels for likely similar reasons.

I read that not long ago and loathed it. Go figure.

"Lad-centric." Is that a euphemism for ****-eroticism? If so, bhodi'd love that movie.
