The whole point of a criminal justice system is to punish in line with sentances set by Judiciary.

I agree. The problems occur when the legislature gets involved in sentencing.

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Yeah.

No point in rehabilitating people to stop reoffending is there? Smiley: dubious

In cases like this, along with clear, premeditated Murder or Rape, I'm happy for life to mean life.

What pisses me off is the revolving prison door that teaches petty thieves to become heroin fuelled muggers and armed robbers.

Yup, too many people getting released early, not for good behaviour or because they have reformed their character, but because UK prisons are simply overcrowded.

That, and half the time the police don't bother to show up when called to a serious or potentially life threatening situation - probably cause some health and safety exec has told them if they go after someone with a weapon, they might get hurt.

Example

I have , in the last two days , had to cal plice after someone attempted to break into my house at 4am, and despite my boyfriend having chased the person, caught them, and taken a photo with his phone of the person (who we know by name) police took 2 days to arrive. They then went to arrest him, only to find he's done a bunk .

Back to the austrian fella, cut his balls off, and shove him in jail .

In California, I think the 3 strikes law was actually voted into effect as a proposition, a direct vote of the people (most major things are) and as I recall, 2 or 3 attempts to restore sanity to the law, e.g. requiring the 3rd offense to be something major, have been voted down.

As to the thread title, there is a case in which people have life sentences for pot, in the US, as cited in Reefer Madness, a book by Eric Schlosser. You can look it up, he has a reference to the actual court cases.

They don't need a long sentence for this guy, they just need to send him to one of our fine prisons in California, say San Quentin. He'd last about 45 seconds and if the inmates didn't get him the poor health care system would.

You know, if I steal a candy bar, I might opt for than hand chopping over be imprisoned for life, as has happened in the US.

If I agree that the justice system in the US at times can be ridiculous will you agree that, in this case, perhaps the punishment doesn't even come nearly close to crime?

If you were in charge, what would you do in this case?

My title was just facetious. MJ should be legal here as well.

Chances are he'll die in prison.
