Hmmm. And here, I was looking forward to being one of those Dell techies a year ago. I guess I'm kinda glad they decided to sell their stuff at WallyWorld and Staples instead of give people real customer service.

You'll all be delighted to know that it was fixed today. Guy showed up around noon, played around with the AC adapter, said it was the motherboard after all, replaced it and now it's all peachy again.

You know, I gotta say: love those old Dell laptops. Mine's been abused for the past six years and it only has a small crack near one of the hinges. I've tripped over the power cord numerous times and eventually had to get another power pack but that's it. Upgraded the memory and video without any problems and it's still running the original install of WinXP since 2002, even though I did a lot of gaming on it over the years. My wife had one that was in worse condition superficially but was like a rusted-out Toyota with 250k miles, still running like a top. These things are pretty hardcore.

The only thing I love better than a yard sale is a flea market. Reduce/reuse, slacker.

What is this laptop thing you speak of?

I take it you don't have another battery or a stand alone charger.

Does it have the original Dell power adapter? Dell has a delightful habit of disabling battery charging with non Dell adapters. In theory to prevent explosions and the like. A purely coincidental consequence being Dell profits selling replacement adapters.

Bah, you have a conspiracy theory about everything...

so what if they're usually right, I'm still correct to say so.
