..or at least these kids can say they are their own uncles/aunts. Some fatherkidnapped his daughter, raped her for 20 years, having 6 children with her, and no one knew. Pretty damn crazy, even for our standards

I considered it ****** up that my cousin was also her 1/2 brothers 2nd cousin. But this beats that by infinity.

(Her mom's first husband was like a second cousin, then he died after having 1 kid...she remarried and had 2 kids with my uncle then.)

Something like that.

Made me think of this poem ,except the poem has slightly less incestous abuse :

Many many years ago when I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter
Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother,
For she was my father's wife.

To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy,
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.

My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle,
Though it made me very sad.

For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.

Father's wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter's son.

My wife is now my mother's mother
And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She's my grandmother, too.

If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.

For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother,
I am my own grandpa!

Friggin' Germans.

Yes, I know it was in Austria, but it's close enough.

Yeah, it's one of the worst stories I've ever read.

There's something in the Austrian water, though. It wasn't so long ago that we heard a similar story about this natascha girl who was kept for 8 years in a basement.

They need to legalise prostitution.

And ban basements.

Yeah, me too. I'd already seen a shorter version of the story.

Wonder what problem the 19-year-old is having that would have led to genetic testing. /shudder

Vitamin D deficiency? The ones still in the basement, including the 19 year old, had never seen daylight. ******* horrifying.

You know those were some pale, pale Austrians when they were brought up... from the basement.

Gah, how overwhelming was that?

I don't know, it's one of those things that makes me want to lay in bed and cry all day. Stories like these are what leads me to not read the news for days at a time.

I agree, that part about living in a basement for 19 years, never seeing the outside, daylight or anything... that just messes me up. I can't even fathom that.

All of which isn't quite as bad as locking your daughter in the basement for 24 years while repeatedly raping her and taking some of her children, while imprisoning others.

I also read that the kids had had no education at all in the basemnt - I really feel bad for them, they're going to be screwed up forever . I mean, they'll never get over being locked in the basement, but on top of that health problems and who knows what barriers from never having encountered the outside world .

I mean - not knowing how to cross a road safely, never mind never having seen a car . Not having seen cats or dogs in real life . Never seeing someone of a different skin tone . All these little things they've never seen add up to a screwed up future.

And the poor mother - words fail me .

I believe they had a TV in the basement. So while the situation is almost as horrifying and ****** up as it could possibly be, and all of them are going to be mentally screwed for life, the situation wasnt' the worst possible scenario. A TV would have been a life-line to some form of normalcy. They never ever got to experience those things themselves, but at least they have lots of mental conceptions of all the stuff in the outside world.

Great. Twenty years of the German equivalent of "Family Feud" reruns.

If they weren't already ****** up, that'll do it.

Wonder what they talked about all that time? Did they have horrible fights over the remote?
