Well, at least PETA's trying to do something that doesn't immediately make me want to punch them in the face.

Now, if the end product tastes (and looks) like a good steak for half the price, this will have been time and money well spent.

But chances are it'll look and taste like a goddamn hot dog. Smiley: glare

It'll probably be even worse.

Right now, most vat meat is just clusters of muscle cells; but there's more to meat, even bad meat, than just that.

Probably the best bet for good synthetic meat is taking animals we currently raise for meat, and then genetically engineering out the ethically questionable bits, like brains. (Or in a nod to HHGTG, breeding them to specifically want to be eaten.)

Somehow I doubt PETA'd go for that though. Smiley: laugh

When I lived in the UK, I used to sometimes eat those Linda McCartney frozen veggie dinners and I gotta say, they weren't that bad.

You helped to bring down the Beatles but your veggie balls were divine. Cheers, me ol' cream cracka!

I wish it could taste like a hot dog.

No, it'll taste more like a veggie dog. Yuck.

That's quite fUcked up.

Not as fUcked up as feeding dead cows to cows, but not far. I agree with Kao, nothing good will come out of this, except maybe edible wombats.

Test-tube meat should be reserved strictly for test-tube babies and test-tube puppies.

What, you're not up for a nice tube steak?

I'm slightly amazed BT hadn't already been by to make a "tube steak" joke about this. Is he sick or something? You know, with the flu?

This makes me think of an alternate-universe Matrix, where humans are sustained by cows grown in ultra-efficiency pods. Stalls, we could call them.

This could just be merged with that other thread about meat farming.
