Former Pres. Jimmy Carter is meeting with Hamas leaders in an effort to further peace in the middle-east.

This is pretty controverial.

Whatdya think...

Will it do any good, or any harm?

If there is to truly be peace negotiations does SOMEONE need to actually be negotiating with those that rule the Gaza Strip. And might it just as well be someone with no constituency?

Isreali officials have mostly refused to meet with him.

Remember Jimmy is a former Nobel Peace Price recipient for peace negotiations in the 70's (think it was the 70's).

Or anything?

On who's behalf is he negotiating? Why should Hamas give a damn about someone who doesn't speak on behalf of anyone that can make a difference there?

If it must be somthing, I guess it's good. It's always better to talk, and it's not like he, or Hamas, or anyone else, has anything to lose from it.

But I can't really see this going anywhere.

Hamas will use it to claim legitamacy as an organization. Beyond that, not much.

Hahahahahahahaahaha...

Yeah, the "Jimmy Carter Seal of Approval" is quite potent in international politics. Who knows it might even get them a seat on the UNSC...

Jimmy doesn't speak for our government. This means nothing, unless they take him hostage.

Then he'll know what it feels like.

I'm half-expecting Hamas to come out of the negotiations and tell the world: "Hey guys, we negotiated with Jimmy Carter, and now Israel is ours! Yay!"
