The news wrote:
The sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer in women has now been linked to an uptick of throat, tonsil and tongue cancers - in a younger and healthier group of patients than doctors have ever seen before.

These head and neck cancers were once the scourge of older men - mostly the result of lifetimes of heavy smoking and drinking. The treatments often left victims disfigured.

But with those cases on the decline, doctors are seeing a new group of victims. They're men in their 40s, and even 30s, whose cancer is brought on by the increasingly common human papillomavirus (HPV). It's an infection that more than half of Americans will encounter during their lifetimes. And researchers now believe that the increase in certain oral cancers can be traced to the spread of the virus through oral sex.

New studies suggest that HPV-related oral cancer cases are on pace to eventually surpass cases of cervical cancer in the United States, which strikes about 11,000 women each year. And many doctors do not realize that they should be on the lookout for oral cancer in younger patients.
11,000+ cases of mouth cancer. And you ladies thought it was tough getting decent oral before...

They're testing the vaccine to see if it works against oral forms and how well it works in males. Apparently, all of the testing up until now has involved chicks and vaginas.

Story if you're so inclined.

If it's affected by the same risk factors as cervical cancer caused by HPV, use of the pill aggravates it. Not sure if that has *any* applicability to men getting throat cancer from this, but there's research indicating that HPV interacts with the chemicals in birth control pills to cause cancer. Whether they interact to form a carcinogenic agent, or there's some other more complex bit going on is still largely unknown.

I suspect this is one of the driving forces behind the semi-recent attempts to add HPV inoculations to the standard regimen given to children. HPV isn't new or any more dangerous on it's own. But when combined with the pill cancer rates quadruple...

HPV also hits the male genitals, sprouting warts on the *****, stomach, and sometimes ****.

Will there also be a risk of head and neck cancers in females? (Although any female giving a ******* to a wart-ridden ******* is just asking for it).

Wow, how did I not know about the interaction with the pill?

Is this new news or is it something doctors are neglecting to mention? That's kinda nuts.

I wonder if us girls should be researching other means of birth control now. Crazy.

Wonderful (sh^tty) news for those of us who've been on the pill since our teens.

I must admit that when I find myself enjoying giving my gf analingus, I wonder if I'm not a bit gay sometimes.

But now I'll worry about mouth-cancer instead, so thanks!

Well Red, allow me to help you self-actualize:

When licking your girlie's bung, do you alternate tongue-strokes between her brown-eye and her balls?

So face-cancer is fine but existential analigus is not?

Not going to be ***** to find a peer reviewed journal/paper you'd accept. I just ran across an article about this a few weeks ago and remembered something about it. I'm sure you can do your own research and find the study mentioned if you really want to.

I did misstate it though. It's not 4 times, it's just three times

Quote:
The WHO researchers found that women who had taken the pill were no more likely than the others to be carriers of HPV. However, those infected with HPV who had used birth control pills for an accumulated total of five years or more were nearly three times more likely to develop cervical cancer than HPV-infected women who had never taken the pill.

The increased risk persisted for up to 14 years after stopping the contraceptives. Women who had taken the pill for 10 years or more were four times more likely to get the disease than those who had never taken it. Using the pill for less than five years did not result in a higher chance of cervical cancer, according to a paper being published today on the Web site of the Lancet medical journal.

This isn't really that surprising. Research has shown that using the pill roughly doubles a womans chance of getting cervical cancer for quite some time. The key part of this study is the inclusion of HPV. That's because roughly 70% of women will contract HPV at some point in their lives, and the rate of non HPV positive women getting cervical cancer is pretty much zero. The original double figure comes from looking at 100% of women. When you realize that you're really just looking at increased risk among those with HPV (the only ones who can get cervical cancer) and base your total off only that 70%, it's pretty simple math to get the 3x figure.

EDIT: Hah! Should read my own quotes more closely. It is 4 times after 10 years. Guess the ole memory is still working afterall...

No.

This isn't really that surprising.

Or particularly useful. Also the fact that it's been refuted by other research for 6 years now slightly factors into the equation.
