Now that we just got tv back again after a nice long vacation from it, I'm finding myself cuddling with Ashe in the morning, sipping my coffee and watching what constitutes as cartoons for kids these days as we both wake up. Gawd they suck. This morning I got a little nostalgic, thinking about the cartoons I used to watch as a kid: Transformers, He Man then later She Ra. Hanna Barbara, Snorks, and of course while not a cartoon, the ever loved Muppet Show. What was your favorite shows when you were a kid?

how far back? i loved the hanna barbara line, as with WB (bugs bunny, daffy duck, etc...) i was lucky in WA state when i was a child (early 80s) we had some anami and i get my addition from that point on. first one i found was battleship yamoto(sp?) and it only grew from there.

yes todays kids "cartoons" are the sux. although i do not mind most of the PBS kids shows like word why, build a word, etc... my son likes them too.

I loved Dungeons and Dragons and Fraggle Rock (the puppet version, not the animated version). I also loved He-Man, She-Ra, JEM!, and the muppet babies (they'll make your dreams come true). Oh, and Thundercats, Thundercats, Thundercats, OHHHHH!

Thundercats makes me think of the SNL Lasercats skits...or maybe it's vice versa.

I used to love that song as a kid. On our honeymoon, Sick and I visited Universal Studios and were wandering around, with music playing outside. That song came on, and I hadn't heard it in about 20 years. I started singing along and smiling ear to ear. That was about the same time that Sick started to wonder what the hell he just got himself into, marrying me. Poor, misguided soul

WB > HB. Bugs Bunny is still good for a laugh.

We used to watch Rocky and Bullwinkle on Sunday afternoons. I understood about 70% of it, but that was prime.

My favorite Saturday lineup was something like Bump in the Night, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain and The Tick.

Freakazoid was in there somewhere too.

The usual ones mostly, Muppets, Hanna Barbara, Disney,...

Then some local ones, although some of the show were sold to the BBC so they might be known, vaguely, to some. (Captain Zeppos would be about the only one some might know though)

I honestly don't know which cartoons are HB any more. When I was a kid it was the Flintstones and some other crappy ones.

In the 90's, however, they came out with PowerPuff girls, which is delightful.

The Great Space Coaster. Of course, this might have been because it was the only show on between the time I got ready for school and the time I actually had to leave for school. I'd sit in front of the heat vent with a blanket over me on cold mornings, eating my oatmeal and wishing I had that nifty pocket-sized movie player they used to use.

1.) Star Blazers. aka Battleship Yamoto (never really understood what was happening)

2.) Scooby Doo

3.) Transformers

4.) G.I. Joe

5.) Dungeons & Dragons

6.) Justice league (Wonder TWIN powers activate!)

He-Man and She-Ra kinda sucked. Scooby Doo was on right when I came home from catholic grade school @ 3:00pm. Probably watched Scooby the most.

Plus cartoons were really only on Saturday mornings from 6:00am to 10:00 am or so. I remember geting up earlier then that and having to wait for the stupid "OFF AIR" screen on some of the stations that weren't running crap 24 hours a day.

P.S. Fraggle Rock & Muppet Show rocked. I think there were two versions of fraggle rock. The puppet version (on HBO) and the cartoon version. I liked the puppet version better.

I notice they dont have this anymore and it's so sad. As a kid I never really watched tv during the week, but I lived for Sat mornings. Waking up at 6 am, pouring my own bowl of cereal while my mom was comatose in bed, flipping on the tv, and watching until the stupid adult shows came on. Fighting with my brother over which channel we would change it to in the next half hour, which led to knock down, drag out fist fights. Good times, good times

yesback in the day before all the PC ******** and the removal of "violent" cartoons like bugs bunny.

Direct TV has a throw-back cartoon station (the name eludes me...), that plays nothing but older cartoons such as Snorks, Smurfs, Hanna Barbara, etc with some Fraggle Rock and Muppets stuff mixed in every now and then.

Definately beats the spanish/multi-lingual, weirdly-shaped-humanoid, crazy stuff they play on Nick Jr. and Noggin. The only one I can stomach is Backyardigans, mostly cause my daughter loves 'em and they don't speak foreign languages.

Every time Dora comes on, I think of "Fun with Dick and Jane" movie when the kid answers the phone speaking spanish and the father ends up in an immigrant prison cause he doesn't have ID on him.

Edit: Damn filter

Voltron, Robotech, Transformers and the Smurfs. Man, I heart the Smurfs.

I worked for Warner Bros. for a year and I adore all their cartoons. Pinky and the Brain, Bugs Bunny and Co., especially Pepe Le Pew. I have a few of their limited drawings.
