Let's see if The Specials can still cut it at their advanced years.

Ska band confirms reunion plans

The Specials, whose records highlighted rising unemployment and social problems in Britain 30 years ago, have confirmed they have reformed.

The Coventry ska outfit, whose hits include Ghost Town and Too Much Too Young, were hugely influential in the late 70s and early 80s.

Singer-songwriter Neville Staple said the group had recently been rehearsing.

Former lead singer Terry Hall is said to have rejoined the line up, after leaving because of a rift.

Speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music earlier this year, he said no tour dates had yet been confirmed.

"Well we're still trying to put dates together, but hopefully September or October time.

"We need to spend the summer rehearsing... I think it's taken me 30 years to realise we could do it really well."

Band members Terry Hall and Lynval Golding made surprise appearances at last year's Glastonbury Festival.

Now that's a gig I would pay to see. Never saw them live first time around.

Alltogether now. . .

Oo-ta-ta Oo-ta-ta!

Never was a big fan of Ska, but still, much better than NKOTB return.

If Toots and the Skatalites are still going these guys may be able to pull it off.
I'm hoping it's not going sound like another jam band with ska chops. Ghost Town was good.. but indeed more reggae than ska. I'm wondering which direction they are going to go.
Will it be a futile attempt to revive their old punk/ska sound? Or actually come up with some good new danceable ska?
and are they going to try to be as controversial like before? I don't know of any British social trends to ***** about.
They weren't bad in the late 90s.. but too much synthesizers for my tastes in ska.

Maybe Terry will liven it up a bit.

I'd absolutely go see then if they they ever toured.

And you'd regret it when they start playing their "new" stuff.

I was showing someone the old 60s ska videos from Jamaica and he commented how they reminded him of monkeys the way they were dancing...
..then I brought of a zydeco video and he stared in shock at seeing a bunch of old Texans dancing the same way to it.

I was absolutely sure this thread would be about the polygamy ranch in Texas. Maybe a caption showing Katie in one of those sexy nineteenth century ankle high dresses.

Reel Big Fish aren't a punk band. Joe Strummer's corpse just popped up and flipped you off.

Reel Big Fish have always been quite poppy. Hell, they were doing what made No Doubt famous around the same time they were, they just have a gay man singing for them as opposed to a "classic" blond beauty (before she went "ghetto").

If you're looking for bands with more of a modern Punk/Ska sound, start with Operation Ivy, Rancid (although they've got more of a Punk/Reggae influence like The Clash), and Less Than Jake.

(Coincidentally, Less Than Jake and RBF have toured together frequently over the years. I've seen them together, twice.)

Mad Caddies, Millencolin, and Sublime are also quite punk/ska-ish.

But yeah, Rancid is just totally awesome Smiley: grin

I <3 Less than Jake and Mad Caddies. I just threw RBG up there with that particular song because even if you dont know them, everyone knows that song and it's done in a good ska style.
