Mmm. It's not worse than the "Hitler was a left wing Socialist" one. Close, though.

Oh, come on Smash. "Doesn't explain minute matters of proposed policy changes in campaign speeches" trumps "I don't know what the hell Hitler was".

Nah, an accurate yet meaningless comparison doesn't trump equating polar opposites.

If you do some heavy research into history and WWII, you find that Hitler didn't do most of the planning for the war, the economy, or socially. He was a figure head for most of it. The country was in the crapper and he happened to be the figure head who people loved when the real people behind the fixes figured out what to do.

I know most politicians don't go into details to the general public about their plans to make happen what they claim, but he dodges the questions no matter what fourm or speach he is giving. But here is the kicker, so do the others. I bring it up b/c the thread was about Obama. If someone wants to start a thread about McCain, I'll tell you how I think he is just as bad, and worse in some respects, as the potential Democratic candidates. Like I said in my first post. It's a case of "lesser of two evils" for this election. Honestly I'm not sure who the lesser evil is yet.

And to those of you who automatically assumed I'm a Republican because I have a negative opinion about some of the Democrat candidates actions, I want you to know that I'm not. I vote for the man or woman, not the party.

And so no one thinks I'm being unfair or unjust. I'll share a little of my opinion about McCain. First, the man is a spend freek. Second, he is making the same mistake Bush made about the war in Iraq. He thinks it's a political thing and politicians should run it. WRONG. Let the Generals who have been thoroughly educated about warfare and tatics run it. He and all the other politicians should just stay the hell out of it. Third, the man claims to be a "uniter". To put it simply, not going to happen. The Dems and Repubs will never be united, the difference of opinion is too great.Fourth, he is a liar, just like all the others.

Side note: Why is it that when someone compairs someone to Hitler, people automatically get offensive. While the man was a total nut job, he did have some good qualities.

Because it lost any usefulness rhetorically about 50 years ago.

I just assumed you were a functionally retarded "independent". There are few people stupider in the world than voters in the US who haven't decided on a party that represents their views by now. Those with severe brain trauma, perhaps. Like if their head was crushed in a vice or something.

Well, no ****, Sherlock. Leaders provide the direction and vision, not the nuts and bolts. A leader who gets bogged down in the details is an ineffective leader.

I have forgotten more about history than you've ever thought to Google, pissant.

I tend to lean toward Republican views, but I won't vote for a Republican if I believe there is another candidate who can do a better job. I'd rather have a competent President than a "oh..well..we was from my party" President

I agree. I was replying to someone who said he was a great planner because of these things. Not that he should be doing them.

You never answered my question. Give me one specific area where he has promised stuff and not offered any plan for it. I'm not claiming there aren't any but I'd like a narrow focus for this.

Close Bankruptcy Loophole for Mortgage Companies: Obama will work to eliminate the provision that prevents bankruptcy courts from modifying an individual's mortgage payments. Obama believes that the subprime mortgage industry, which has engaged in dangerous and sometimes unscrupulous business practices, should not be shielded by outdated federal law.

How exactly does he purpose to change a law? Thought congress made laws?

He's not saying he'll single-handedly change the law but you should have learned in high school that the president has considerable sway over what his party tries to accomplish (especially with a friendly majority in Congress).

True. I believe I'm educated now..lol

They all do it. I really don't particulary like any of the candidates. Do you believe an honest man or woman can get that far in politics? I'm not so sure. It seems like when someone tries to be honest the other politicians tear him or her apart.

Not saying Obama is not honest, or at least not less honest than the rest of them. Do you feel any particular candidate lies more than the other an why?

If you're cynical enough to distrust all politicians - where does that leave you?

Saying "they all do it" is hardly an excuse for refusing to vote.

You picked a silly easy example anyway. Since what he is proposing is simply a change in the law, the answer is to use the Bully Pulpit to hassle Congress to change the law. I'm more curious when a president makes statements like "I'm going to create 45,000 more jobs in the farming sector" without any clue how he or she proposes to do so. You can't hassle Congress to pass the "Make 45k More Jobs" Act.

The Green Collar Jobs Act, though, no problem.

That's my point Smiley: smile

The infrastructure part has a plan on the surface of it:
Quote:
Sixty billion would go to a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to rebuild highways, bridges, airports and other public projects. Obama estimated that could generate nearly 2 million jobs, many of them in the construction industry that's been hit by the housing crisis.
You can develop a fair estimate of how much labor is required to build a bridge, mile of highway, etc. You can extrapolate from that how many jobs will be created (obviously Obama has people to do this for him).

The "green collar" bit I'd need to see more on. I'm guessing that it's harder to extrapolate how much labor you can create hoping to build windfarms and solar arrays versus tried and true numbers for a mile of six-lane highway.

Pfff. Color me a cynic, but I'd think it was just a way to work "green collar" into an economic speech.

Ha!

Back in my days, we were taught how to roll joints so tight it made cigarettes look like roll-ups, and roll-ups look like a drifting tampon, lost in the sea. Today's rollers have lost all the flair and panache that used to go into the venerable craft of joint rolling. Kids nowadays, they stuff it down in some bong, or pipe, or whatever crap they use, and the fine art of joint rolling is slowly disappearing as its practioners approach old age. Soon, there won't be any old school joint rollers left, and people will travel all the way to Florence to see how crusty Italian joint-rolling masters ply their craft the old fashioned way. They'll market it "Organic fair-trade joint-rolling" and it'll be a tourist attraction, like Disneyland, but with joints.

When I lived in Mexico, the kids there used to smoke it through an apple. Now that's some organic **** right there.

If you believe everyone in politics is dishonest, then what would your motivation be for participating?

Cynicism is a copout, nearly every time. It's shorthand for "I don't want to put in the effort to understand/work toward/educate myself about this stance/goal/issue."
