Looks like Creative labs has decided to **** off every user on the planet.

http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&thread.id=116332&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Short version: Creative makes sound cards. Creative says older sound cards won't work under Vista because of hardware. Creative also can't get newer cards to work right under vista. Bored user comes along and gets all sound cards to work properly, asks for donation on website. Instead of hireing him for faield driver team, creative removes all of his posts and publicly threatens legal action. Then discovers that the consumers of the world can see public threat and are less than thrilled...

It's unfortunate that a once leader in sound card technology has fallen this far. A sad day for Creative.

Never mind, I need to lurk more.

I'm amazed at how fast that thread grew in 2 days. Never underestimate the power of the Internet.

And when the inevetable class action lawsuit occurs, I have several of the soundcards likely to be covered.

Sadly, events like these are why so many companies are fearful of communicating directly with users on their support forums. It is inevitable that some douche who works for the company will communicate something that shouldn't be said, and all hell will break loose.

That said, Creative can suck it, big time.

The PR and legal departments operate in their own little (separate) worlds in those cases.

Which is unfortunate, because it leads to a total and complete lack of a clue on both their parts.

So if I retroactively buy a copy of Vista, the CAL will cover the cost?

No, it's inevitable that more than one person at a time will see how all corporations view all consumers: worthless replaceable parts who exist only to be taken advantage of.

That looks fishy.

While it is not our place to condemn the decisions of Creative regarding this issue, our customers come first. That being said, it has come to our attention that many of our customers are not happy with the products Creative has released nor the support for those products. To wit, we have processed nearly 5,000 return orders within the past 48 hours. While it is not normally in our best interest to publically comment in a manufacturer's forum, the overwhelming concensus has left us little choice. As such, effective tommorow morning newegg.com will suspend sales of the sound cards in question, particularly those indicated as "Vista compatible", pending an investigation into the matter. Those of you whom recently ordered such a card will still recieve your product as indicated in any relevant conversations. While we regret this abrupt decision, it has been deemed neccessary to protect the interest of our consumers. We welcome contact from Creative as soon as is possible so that we may resolve this issue.

Apart from the dodgy misuse of 'whom' (Smiley: schooled) it claims to be taken from newegg's site, but searches on Newegg found nothing, and they still appear to be offering all the Creative product range.

Someone's propaganda's getting a bit carried away, perchance?

I agree that Creative's PR was lousy, but wasn't this guy reverse-engineering copyrighted proprietary software and adding unlicensed (Dolby) functionality?

It was an actual post by "Newegg" on the Creative forums:

http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=117948#M117948

I'm not sure which soundcards are included in the group supposedly to be pulled, so I can't verify on their site, but it appears to be an authentic message.

It just seemed odd that the post didn't link to the statement by Newegg?

]Update: A post on the Creative thread that claimed to be from Newegg.com, the popular computer hardware retailer, purported that Newegg would stop selling Creative products. As of this morning, Newegg's customer service department said they had not been aware of any boycott on the part of Newegg and pointed out that almost 300 products from Creative were still available for sale on the site. A call to Newegg's corporate office resulted in a big, fat busy signal. According to the customer service agent, Newegg has been getting multiple calls this morning regarding the letter.

In short, as one could reasonably presume about a major corporate policy change posted exclusively on another company's site, the "Newegg stops selling Creative products" story is almost certainly a hoax.

Not just me then.

. . . and would Newegg (as the boycott site claims) post something like this on Creative's discussion forum? Smiley: dubious

This fire has already gone nuclear. Adding a little 92 octane will not change much.

Marshmallows anyone?

That did not come from New Egg, the company. They also, misspelled 'receive.'
