Did anyone hear This American Life this weekend? In the opening piece, Ira Glass was talking to astronauts about how their "dream" job has a very different reality. Mostly they do admin stuff, attend meetings and plan space travel but less than half of them have actually been to space. And that's not likely to change in the coming years.

Got me to thinkin' what my dream job might be - believe it or not, it's not teaching Shakespeare to teens. =)

I think being a travel show host (like Ian Wright) would rule. Travel all over the world with the best things to do already planned for you. How cool would that be?

What's your dream job?

Probably interpreting at the UN, or for immigration court. Great pay, even better hours!

To be a FragDoll. Well maybe not so much a FragDoll, but more a chick who gets payed to play games. I know it sounds juvenile and all of that, but seriously gaming is my passion.

Well for my other job I DO work for the government, irrefutably proving that there is something wrong with me.

I like this one, but for me it would be all abou the food. So, maybe something like Anthony Bourdain's job.

Otherwise I'd still like to be a hardcore field-geologist, which was the direction I was heading years ago before life side-tracked me.

I like being a paralegal. Hours are pretty good, pay is pretty good. I just wish I could travel more. Met a paralegal that travels internationally probably one week out of every month to review client files, do due diligence and whatnot. I would love to do that.

Maybe you should work more bankruptcy and money laundering cases. My sister in law and her para went to the Caymans for a week or so once. Not a bad gig.

I need to get into either an in-house legal department at a really large company or a large law firm. I was looking at Sony last year but didn't have enough IP experience, which is what I'm getting now. Meh, I'd be happy with a trip to San Francisco at this point, even if I got to drive to Los Angeles.

Costume designer.

I'd be happy as a ******* clam in a design studio ^^

I still need years and years more of practice before I can even think about it, and unfortunately the pay for clothing commissions and alterations in itself isn't enough to support me, so I'd have to work TWO jobs just to pay the bills . . .

Alternately, I'd like to be in a server room and get paid to watch blinky lights and surf the internet all day (or all night) in the meantime. To that end, instead of working a 2nd job, I'm studying for the CCNA exam. (Today's lesson was the horrors of subnetting and boolian algebra.)

You get paid to play with kids all day in your pajamas.

You might be happier as a faded pop star. You could even have your own ranch, with an amusement park and everything.

Is there a definition here I'm not aware of?

I suppose when you're talking about sex in deep space, there might need to be compressed air involved somehow...
