Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico plans to endorse Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic race for president Friday, an Obama campaign spokesperson told CNN.

Richardson plans to join Obama at a rally in Portland, Oregon, at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

In an e-mail to supporters, Richardson said Obama will be a "historic and a great President, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad."

Better late than never, I guess. Get on board brownies!

Highly unlikely.

Same here. Though Richardson grates on the others.

Also, I love how Fox News is playing it as a major snubb against a Hillary by a "friend of Bill's".

To be fair, that's not that far off. It even might have had some value if he'd done it before Texas.

Unfortunately Obama is through after this race debacle. How his advisors ever allowed him to get directly involved in a race debate is beyond me. On the other hand I don't think anyone really believes Hillary can defeat Mcain.

What race debacle or race debate? His speech was actually quite compelling and necessary as Hillary and her campaign have been race-baiting for weeks and he just seemed really honest about what is facing America in regard to the racial schisms. It's about time some major politician talked about it. His numbers haven't really changed. I think you might be overreacting.

I've been reading about this controversy for weeks. While he may only have one post, his viewpoint is how some people are spinning it and it is frustrating.

#12REDACTED, Posted: Mar 21 2008 at 6:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) mark my words Obama stands no chance of winning the nomination. Ironic that Limbaugh would be the reason we were to have Hillary as president because of his push to have republicans and independents vote for Hillary in the primaries. It's obvious he's doing this to this for the benefit of the GOP. Of course it will laughingly backfire on him were Hillary to win the presidency.

Had a great discussion about race relations with my black hairdresser yesterday. Obama, in one monumental speech, took the taboo off the topic. This is a Good Thing.

The impact of this whole debacle may still cost him the presidency, but he said what we needed to hear, not what we wanted to hear, and that's what is making people so uncomfortable. The truth hurts sometimes.

Yes, we've all been reading about it for weeks, and most people on this board are in agreement. Those who aren't in agreement have a more sophisticated, if unpopular, response than whoever keep recreating a trolling sock. That was my only point. If you want to argue with a troll, a boring one, go for it. I was just trying to save you some energy!

That's a good point. I guess I'm on edge since it makes me so angry if Hillary's race-baiting bs would really have such an effect as to help her win the nomination by playing into the fears of blue collar white people. I hate it because it would make me wonder if I would have to hold my nose to vote for her in November and if she would be willing to use racial politics to divide up the Democratic party in order for her to gain power. I am so tired of Bush and was hoping for something different and she seems determined to make sure that doesn't happen.

Obama isn't going to win the nomination at this point, and Hillary won't win against McCain. It was fun while it lasted though.

He's far from through. I'm not the only one who finally got off the fence after this.

And I have no reason to believe Clinton could not defeat McCain. He's the Republican Kerry.

Won't be interesting at all. The Republican side is full of retirements and weak candidates while the Democratic side is pretty solid with few holes.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the focus gets off of Jeremiah Wright. Pennsylvania, demographically, might be difficult for Obama but I still have faith with him.

Then again, I volunteered for Dukakis's and Kerry's campaign so I have faith in almost anyone Smiley: glare.

Oh, he'll almost certainly lose Pennsylvania. Maybe an Edwards endorsement will make it tighter but he won't win the state described as "Pittsburg and Philadelphia with Alabama in between". The trick is to make Pennsylvania tight enough that Hillary still can't pull it off mathmatically.

Richardson's endorsement won't mean jack for Pennsylvania but giving it now will help his Hispanic credentials this fall against McCain. According to Richardson, he was swayed by Obama's speech this week:
Bill Richardson wrote:
Earlier this week, Senator Barack Obama gave an historic speech. that addressed the issue of race with the eloquence, sincerity, and optimism we have come to expect of him. He inspired us by reminding us of the awesome potential residing in our own responsibility. He asked us to rise above our racially divided past, and to seize the opportunity to carry forward the work of many patriots of all races, who struggled and died to bring us together.

As a Hispanic, I was particularly touched by his words. I have been troubled by the demonization of immigrants--specifically Hispanics-- by too many in this country. Hate crimes against Hispanics are rising as a direct result and now, in tough economic times, people look for scapegoats and I fear that people will continue to exploit our racial differences--and place blame on others not like them. We all know the real culprit -- the disastrous economic policies of the Bush Administration!

Senator Obama has started a discussion in this country long overdue and rejects the politics of pitting race against race. He understands clearly that only by bringing people together, only by bridging our differences can we all succeed together as Americans.

His words are those of a courageous, thoughtful and inspiring leader, who understands that a house divided against itself cannot stand. And, after nearly eight years of George W. Bush, we desperately need such a leader.
