Never had it, don't need it. I looked into it once, and it seemed overpriced.

When the hell did Easter become a Holiday? I'm Catholic, and we barely notice the day.
Is this irony/sarcasm?

No. I'm aware it's a Catholic holiday, but I've never celebrated it as a work holiday in the United States in my 24 years here or in ANY way in my entire life other than going to Mass (which I was doing anyway).

Here in Chicago people take Thursday and Friday off, plan on going to the sales like they do for Black Friday, and make it a family event where everyone dresses up and goes to brunch. Hell, half my staff was on vacation last week, and when had to deny some of them the break due to staffing issues, they were like "But it's EAAASSSTERRRR!" Hell, we're a Jewish Hospital.

I think Easter always was at least a three-day weekend holiday in Australia.

A couple of decades ago, they rationalised the school curriculum, deciding that four terms were going to fit into Australia's pattern of public holidays better than the three present ones. So they kept the number of school days, but divided the school year into four parts, instead of three, and now the kid's holidays coincide better with Mum and Dad's.

Easter is the fort-night long school break between term one and two.

I've never heard of anyone taking off Thursday and Friday...unless maybe because their kids were in catholic school and got those days off. Never heard of the shopping thing either. Dress up and brunch - yes.

Odd.

Everyone has the Friday & Monday off work here; always have. Kids have 2 weeks off school.

I'm not sure if it's just evolving or what-then again, I work with a 100% immigrant staff. I'm not sure if it's a holiday in Mexico but this year, even my atheist Russian interpreter took a holiday.

Supermarkets in Maine were closed yesterday.

We went out for brunch at a local oceanside restaurant. It was a beautiful day (from inside looking out). We had a piano-man accompianment. The food was dam good...and plentiful. Had to go home and have a nap afterwards.

I didn't know you were from Maine. My mom came down from South Portland to Massachusetts, where I live currently but I grew up in Presque Isle and then Windham during my last year of high school--and Portland for a few years in my early 20s.

Fixed for Natasha Fatale or whoever your interpreter is.

My kid got Good Friday off (public school) which was a little odd. I mean, they always get it off but usually under the thin guise of a teacher's in-service or something that day. This year they just labeled it "Start of Spring Break".

Yes, but you're in Europe. You guys have week long holidays like every month. Given that, the typical work day of 9-3 with a 2hour pub lunch, it's a wonder you people get any work done.
