I'm just curious, since Allakhazam is an MMO gaming forum, what's everyone playing these days? I originally came here because of FFXI, but haven't really played MMO's in a while. What is the latest and greatest?

I wasn't a statistics major or anything, but umm... since there are like 12 vaginatillion WoW players in the world and like eight people that play something else, I'm guessing that WoW pretty much fills the bill for being the "latest and greatest". Sure, that guy that plays Zork online is going to claim that the numbers mean nothing, but I think that the billion+ dollars Activision is netting every year would speak to the contrary.

Your mileage may vary, ya know, if you're an idiot.

EDIT: I forgot to use my words.

Well I know about WoW, I was more curious as to what the people in the Asylum play, or if they still play anything at all, or if they don't play anything and just continue to post here.

I'm inclined to think few of us actually play MMOs anymore. At least until Horsez 3 for the DS gets an online co-op mode.

Hi Bhodi. I don't know what that acronym is.

As for Horsez, I heard they are making two versions for part 3, Studz and Marez. I hope you and I can play the co-op Scribbie ;)

It is code "for the worst MMO ever developed ".

So you don't write, you don't call. I was hoping you got hit by a truck or turned into a weird recluse like Trickybeck, categorizing toe nail clippings and bottling urine.

I was playing EQ2 but I have taken a break.

And...

It's been great. I have read twice as many books and written more in the past month than I did when I was playing. Go figure. I really haven't missed gaming as much as I thought I would.

Just blasted a PM off to DSD, my new comp is here tomorrow /cheer and my EQ2 account is still active so I might have to fire it up and see what it looks like on a setting higher than "suck".

Currently raiding Hyjal/BT in WoW, waiting patiently for Age of Conan to come out.

Don't even get me started on my account. Grrrr.

And wow, I envy anyone who gets to play that game with the graphics turned up. What a difference it makes. I'm half blind now from squinting my way through Lavastorm too many times.

I didn't get hit by a truck, and actually managed the opposite of being a recluse (hence my absence from these forums). I also moved, changed political affiliations, and work for the man. But I think I have a much nicer demeanor. I was looking through my old posts...we'll just leave it at that.

I always enjoyed the political stuff on this forum, that's why I are back.

How do EQ and WoW compare? Based on your obvious extensive experience.

Solo'ing is much easier and actually fun (at least until you hit the point where you get bored).

grouping is complete chaos, Aggro management and CC is not words that seem to reverberate around the brain of the average WoW player.

The controlled grouping in EQ even at low levels just never happens in WoW, mostly it appears to be a gankfest. I'm sure that skilled players can make it controlled but i've never encountered a group in the EQ sence while playing WoW.

Raiding is raiding, lots of variation in quality.

Tradeskills are no fail, which i hate and you can only have two, which i hate.

it's much easier to play for a couple of hours and think "hey i got something done tonight" which is miles better than EQ.

I'm playing FFXI, though less and less lately. The game has some pretty heavy design flaws that interfere with its longevity, but I doubt even WOW is an exception to that practice.

SSBB isn't really an MMO in the conventional sense I guess, but it's a fighting game with an online mode and it's hugely popular. It'll likely be the top grossing game ever. I've heard that lag in battles is pretty bad though. It's a very timing sensitive game so someone with a ping advantage would probably kick your ***.

About a month ago, I jumped back into WoW and joined a really great guild. I rarely ever solo as there is always a group of guildies to hang with. Our lev 70s help us without being asked and run us through instances just for the camaraderie.

I moved a few of my favorite toons from Feathermoon and Shadow Council over to my new east coast server, Steamwheedle Cartel. Last night I brought one of my friends from California into the guild so we'll have WoW to hang out now that I'm back on the east coast.

I just canceled my subscription for EQ2 for the time being - still love the game but I just haven't been on and I've gotta watch my budget. Also have a lifetime paid subscription to LOTRO but again, never on it and WoW has been an absolute blast.

I'll probably check out Age of Conan and definitely will check out Warhammer Online when they get released. I may also check out Star Trek Online but I have no idea when that one comes out.

I play EQ every once in a while(basically whenever I have the extra money) and I'm about to try WoW for a second time and see if it's possible for me to actually like that game. I have a free trial I can use for FFXI too right now so I might play that.

I have a LOTRO and a WOW account running at the moment. I was loving LOTRO, but my LOTRO static went back to play WOW (they missed the PvP servers) and I've follwed them back. I'm loving WOW again this second time round. I really needed that 3/4 of a year break I had from it though.

Highly recommend LOTRO to anyone. Everything else is better than WOW, as far as I'm concerned, apart from the battlegrounds and the PvP aspect.

The phrase: "when hell freezes over" would come to mind. Perpetual dropped it and didn't sell the code along with the licence, so anyone new (Cryptic Studio I believe) will have to start all over again.

As far as I know anyway, could have changed already.

I was really looking forward to this game, let's hope it still makes it.

Thanks for the input dudes. Nobody seems overly excited about anything so I'll stick to my X-Box 360.

I did watch a trailer for Age of Conan in which one of the developers was talking and showcasing some of the game elements.

He said, in a German accent, "Here is the succubus, don't worry she will have nipples on release." I wasn't worried about it, until that point. Weird.

AoCs main selling points are PvP and the M rating. They like to point out blood, nudity and decapitations will be included. AoC is going to be every gankers wetdream, if you want competetive, balanced, and 'fair' PvP (I.E RvR)wait for WAR.

|AoC also features a broken combat system, zero gameplay and no long term playability. It is a console game on the PC.

WAR is primarily a PvP system (In that you have no non PvP servers and every combat zone has PvP built in) so if you're a non PvP player you might as well skip it.
