What gives?

I dunno; something about this rings hollow:

Quote:
"Admiral Fallon reached this difficult decision entirely on his own. I believe it was the right thing to do, even though I do not believe there are in fact significant differences between his views and administration policy," Gates said.

Pushed out, almost for certain. He shouldn't have done the Esquire interview.

Shame, the guy's a military genius and cares about the people he sends to battle. I have nothing but the best to say about him.

From an planning standpoint, I'd like to see Olson moved there, but probably not going to happen.

Wonder why he did do that interview?

Oh, and:

Quote:
Gates said he will be replaced by Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, his deputy, who commanded an Army division in Iraq in the early days of the war and led efforts to train the Iraqi military.

I can't imagine that'll be permanent.

The real problem is that a lot of talented prospects see that command as a large bag of political **** with no real career upside. This leads to talentless ***** like Abizaid being given the role, which sadly is likely what will happen again long term here.
