The new Russian President.

OK. It's spelled "Medvedev"

But how is it pronounced?:

  • MEDvyedev?
  • MedvYEdev?
  • MedeYev?
  • MedyeDEV?

Strangely, none of the above.

It's pronounced "Putin"

Through no fault of his own, I always associate it with movie critic turned Republican radio host, Michael Medved.

It's pronouned MED-Ved-Yef.

But yeah, it's the most low-key Russian election ever. But I'm sure all that means is that there's absolutely nothing to wrorry about Smiley: thumbsup.

Lol, they were just destroying his name on NPR, pronouncing it in every way you described, Nobs. The news announcer fianlly just mumbled something like, "Mmmmph-a-dev" at the end of his segment.

Depends on the relative 'poshness' of the reader and where in Russia they're from.

Old RasPutin uses the formal Med-vYed-yev (a softer 'y' sound on the last syllable than on the 2nd). Some russkie newreaders even include a soft 'y' on the 1st syllable as well.

Hillary appears to get confused by a bunch of other syllables only she can hear Smiley: um
