From CNN

Quote:
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton met her match while appearing on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" to deliver the show's trademark opening line and provide an "editorial response" to a mock presidential debate.

During the opening sketch -- which featured SNL actors playing Clinton, rival candidate Barack Obama and the debate moderators -- Clinton complimented the performance of Amy Poehler, who regularly lampoons Clinton with her impersonation of the senator from New York.

"I simply adore Amy's impression of me," Clinton said, providing the cue for Poehler to enter the stage, wearing the same two-button brown jacket and sporting Clinton's medium-length, layered hairstyle.

Poehler giddily thanked Clinton for appearing.

"I love your outfit," the identically dressed Poehler told Clinton.

"Well, I love your outfit," Clinton responded, putting her hand on Poehler's shoulder, "but I do want the earrings back."

It seems that especially this election many candidates are throwing away the previous grave mood of debates. When I first witnessed the Youtube debates I thought it was a step forward on the road to practicality. I thought candidates were throwing away the milieu of pretense, and ready to be more realistic about elections. But I'm a bit worried that perhaps this was instead an experiment in taming a new dimension of demographic, pop culture. Are we going to see cameo appearances by presidential candidates in the next Marvel block buster movie?

Pretty sure GW was on SNL when campaigning for the 2000 elections.

Hilary's just after votes from the younger crowd.

He was, I don't feel this is an especially significant step up from previous elections, but I do feel it is a general trend. I don't believe we had presidential hopefuls acknowledging voice-overed snowmen in the 2004 election.

This reminded me of when Janet Reno was on SNL and came crashing through a wall during a Janet Reno Dance Party sketch.

A lot of the press she had been getting of late had been bugling her ice-queeniness; So I have seen numerous instances in the passed few week of her PR people or whatever launching a scrambling in a desperate attempt at countering that with this sort of thing.

I saw it, & the sketch was funny until, literally, Clinton appeared on the screen.

Rudi Guliani was much funnier in his cameo later on in the show, but Huckabee last week (and with multiple guest appearances on the Colbert Report) was absolutely hilarious.

I'm sure they're all on youtube, but I'm too lazy to link them.

Well, that was one of the most excellent television moments ever. That and when Richard Nixon appeared on Laugh-in (this is all nothing new). Hilary is diggin' deep for support though and if I wasn't so annoyed by her, I might find it charming.

I've no truck with her appearing on SNL. Her incessant whining about how mean and unfair the media is to her gets old with a quickness. This is the woman who is supposed to withstand the mighty Republican Attack Machine? Someone who pouts and throws a fit each time she thinks CNN or MSNBC isn't "fair" enough to her?

Hell, Clinton played the saxophone on ******* Hall. Candidates are perpetually trying to seem like regular folks so people will empathize with them.

My thoughts exactly. I think her diminishing support has a lot to do with that...people are seeing how the candidates are handling direct attacks, and she is not behaving in a way that many would like to see in a prospective President.
