avacado dipFollow

after much experimentation, my recipe.....untill the last avacado falls off the tree anyway.

1 avacado.
1 cap full lime juice
2 tbl spoons sour cream
3 tbl spoons "hot" salsa sauce
1 spoon full liquid smoke or wistershire sauce (both work well)
garlic powder
black pepper
ocean salt (makes a big differance using this as opposed to regular salt)

personally, i like it chunky. but some on familey prefer it whipped intill not a single lump remains. and they may get it that way if they make it too.

I only use avocado, lime and salt. To taste. Anyone who gets sour cream near my avocado get dope slapped. And I love hot sauce. Current favorite is Chulula. However, avocado has a rather subtle flavor easily masked by, oh, just about anything.

Actually, since I moved last year I own this gigantic avocado tree. With my current implements of avocado harvesting, I can probably reach anything which grows at lower then 20 feet off the ground. Anything higher I just wait for it to drop. Some of those babies are freakishly large. I should weigh and measure the larger ones.

I dice up avocado and just mix it with diced tomatoes, finely diced onion, chopped cilantro and lemon juice with a sprinkling of salt and pepper. *droolicious

sliced avacado with a little lime juce and some salt is good. avacado slices on grilled or baked fish is good too.

but your right. they have a very delicate taste and it is easy to mask it with other things, its kind of the reason i like it super chunky. a little sour cream does a good job of highlighting the avacado taste to, should try it before dismissing it.

Likewise. If it wasn't for Flea adding them to salads, burgers, etc I wouldn't do anything but cut one in half, dash it with salt and dig in.

Avocados are great!

If you ever want an easy plant type science project for a young child, get a small glass jar and 4 toothpicks, retrieve the seed fromt he avocado. then put the 4 toothpicks in it around the circumference and put the "short" end in the glas and fill with water

In about a week it will sprout into an avocado plant. makes a good houseplant until they get too big!

Be warned that some avocados are treated with growth inhibitors these days to make the fruit last longer before it gets fiberous. So you might be treating your tyke to a lesson in frustration. Get an avocado from an organic supplier if you plan on using it for home botany experiments.

Yup. That's a good recipe. Flavor, but not "hot" is the key to good guacamole.

Putting hot/spicy stuff into the mix somewhat defeats the purpose IMO. Nothing wrong with putting guac and salsa onto/into the same dish, but I prefer keeping them separate initially. Sometimes, I want the cool mild flavor of avocado, sometimes I want something a bit spicier. Put them together in one food and you don't have the choice bite to bite...

Yep, what she said. Though around here "pepper" is usually replaced by chili powder.

You guys are all doing it wrong. The best avocado recipe is Avocado Buttercream Frosting.

8 ounces avocado meat, approximately 2 small to medium
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 pound powdered sugar, sifted
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

Peel and pit the avocado. Place the avocado into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment along with the lemon juice and beat until lightened in color, approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Add the powdered sugar a little at a time and beat until smooth. Add the lemon extract and mix to combine. If not using right away, store in the refrigerator.

This. It has got to the point that I slice them up and eat them on everything.

I even tried a slice with a piece of sashimi the other day. It wasn't to bad.
