Bog Digger!

Nexa lives right next to a Peat Bog. First time I visited, we went there and I immediately cut some out, built a hut, started a fire and planted potatoes. If she hadn't pulled me away, I'd have had that still up and running in hours.

True story.

Ain't digging peat a ***** when the pig keeps wrigglin' from under your arm?

On a related note, I live in an ethnically diverse city that even has (I Shit you not) "The Lucky Shamrock Halal Pizza Parlour".

As the old song goes "You can always tell a Brummie by the Shamrock in his Turban" Smiley: clown

I've never heard the word oriental as bad...unless you mean a different pond.

I tend to go with "slant eyed opium *****" to try to avoid any confusion.

It was an incident in an ER in Boston where I had no clue what kicked off. A Japanese-American nurse refused to treat a patient. The Medic on duty explained that a patient had called her an 'oriental' and there was a gasp of shock from bystanders. They told me it was like the 'n' word for slopes.

No, it's considered bad taste around here, although it's more on the order of "colored" or "negro". More often the insult is derived from the ignorance of the speaker, not any sort of intentional slight.

Nice to know that colonials are sensitive about cultural respect. Even Micks.

I was quite shocked when I heard people in the UK openly saying that someone was a "Jew". In France, calling someone "un Juif", would sound extremely out of place, invoking some painful memories. It's still quite taboo. But the weird thing is that we don't really have another word for it. So we just don't really talk about it. We just point at the star.

I'd always be curious about the Greek word: Malakas. When I lived with a bunch of Greeks, they used this word constantly. They said it meant "***************** and I think it's an equivalent of calling someone an asShole. I don't think it was really considered to be that much of a curse word, from what I understand.

asShole/sh*thead, roughly translated. Courtesy of Jimmy the Greek.

You have the standard British slang used in the US that really means nothing. Bloody, ********* ******, etc. are all fairly innocuous over here and don't really have much impact.

My understanding is that cnut and **** are both 10 times less offensive in the UK vs. the US.

The literal Italian tranlation for Pig-God is about as bad as an f-bomb stateside.

The word Oriental is just one of those words that jumped on the bandwagon for political correctness. It's still widely used, just not so much when Chinese people are around. Chinese is also considered derogatory, assuming of course that the person you are referring to isn't from China.

The word Jew is fine in the US so long as it is used as a noun and not a verb, the latter meaning to swindle someone or ***** someone out of money.

The word Gay is also fine, as long as you aren't referring to something or someone that isn't homosexual, otherwise it's insulting.

In parts of the Carribean, the word Punk means homosexual as opposed to meaning ill mannered person/thug/troublemaker here in the US. Also used to refer to a genre of music and it's fans. Often times the traits associated with the word being attributed to those fans.
