Sen. Christopher Dodd endorsed one-time presidential rival Barack Obama on Tuesday and said it is time for Democrats to join forces to defeat the Republicans in the fall campaign.

"I don't want a campaign that is divisive here, and there's a danger in that," Dodd said, although he denied he was nudging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to end her candidacy.

Dodd said Obama was "ready to be president and I am ready to support him in this campaign."

Yup, he's boned. He needs a knockout at the debate tonight to have any reason to carry on his delusional campaign.

I'm enjoying Justin Webb's BBC Blog lately.

I nice balance of whimsy and cynicism, but unusually, for a BBC Editor, he's happy to be up-front on his opinions about how he thinks the various camps are faring.

I particularly enjoyed the tone of this:

Justin Webb wrote:
Greetings now from another huge rally at a university in Cincinnati - a sports hall filled to the rafters.

Thunderous support for an Obama speech which contained the interesting line that he is "a supporter of capitalism!"

That's a relief - America's coming socialist revolution is on hold after all.

BUT "If you are working in this country you should not be poor," is another line - and that idea, it seems to me, would be genuinely revolutionary if it caught on.

America does not believe in entrenched poverty, class-based poverty. But this is a society in which, if things don’t turn out right, you can fall very hard and land very low. Not that this nation is proud of poverty - but I have always thought there is a semi-willing acceptance of it as a corollary of the great emphasis given to wealth-creation here.

If every working American was well off, the US would - as some have pointed out - look more like Canada or even Western Europe.

I said last time that he needed to stab her with his pen but no one listens to me.

While the Hellbeast provokes polarizing reactions in people, Obama is a Rorschach ink blot test for Dems and undecideds. He represents just about anything to someone not interested in Republicans or the Democratic establishment candidate.

However, his first campaign promise that will be broken is the "troops coming home in six months" promise. There is no way in the world that even if he has every intention to keep his pledge that he could do it in the six months he says it would. In GW1 with no one shooting at us it took over six months to bring everyone home-- and we left most of our stuff over there buried in the desert. Now we are supposed to leave Iraq in 180 days while hostile forces are engaging us?

Not a chance. The boy is already in over his head and he's not CinC yet.

He actually said around sixteen months and for exactly the reason you provided: He couldn't see withdrawing more than two battalions a month at most.
Common Dream (the first Google hit) wrote:
Obama has committed to withdraw regular combat troops within 16 months and launch diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives to address some of the underlying issues driving the ongoing conflicts. He has also pledged to launch “a comprehensive regional and international diplomatic initiative to help broker and end of the civil war in Iraq, prevent its spread, and limit the suffering of the Iraqi people.”

I have a suspicion that he might have people to advise him on that sort of thing if he wins. Possibly even people who've served in the Military, which would be a refreshing change.

Strangely enough, I suspect that is precisely what will happen, Smash. Once he listens to people who actually know what they are doing when concerning military matters, Obama will discover that his illfounded campaign promise will require major revamping resulting in the very policy we are engaged in now-- yeah, that one the present CinC is pursuing. But then, Obama doesn't know d1ck about the military, so why would that surprise anyone?

To be fair, what politican actually does? Not the last couple presidents at least. None of this season's crop of candidates on either side besides probably McCain.

Precisely.

And after all the whining and hand wringing about how the Afgan/Iraq War has been conducted, you'd think we'd be a wee bit smarter about who we root for for president. But this board? Mostly Obama-ites. It's as if you guys didn't learn the lesson you've been screaming at us for the last 7 years.

If war was the *only* issue we were concerned with, we might be pursuaded to root for McCain.

That would be wildly out of character for a President if the last 20 years are any sort of guide.

obama i think represents something the other candidates, hillary and mccain do not, atleast the perception of change. hope.

hillary is part of the old machine that swings to the left and swings to the right without ever going very far forward. i think most people, even republicans, are sick of the wide swings and little gains.

mccain is running on a "iraq was a good thing" platform. dead in the water before it starts. we have no bussiness there, never did. most of us realize it now especially since the iranian pres holding hands and playing nice with the puppets we put in power. if that wasnt a huge slap in the face to all the americans that died fighting over there, i dont know what could be.

and hillary is part of the democratic status quo. most of us are sick of that too.

obama might not turn out to be any better, but not knowing he is not what we want is better than electing "iraq was a good thing" or miss swing hard to the left status quo.
