A brief history: My mother is a divorced marriage counselor....

Received a call this morning from my brother. His wife is 4 months pregnant and works 70 hours a week. She took a promotion about 5 months ago and the massive hours were there before she got pregnant.

Basically my brother said that Mother, who is visiting them, thought she was endangering the baby because of her workload and stress. So my mother, in her infinite wisdom, told them that she would give them 15k to have her quit her job.

So despite her years of training, education, and experience, my mother, yet again, attempts to bail my brother and his wife out of a situation that they got themselves into....

Why is it that responsible people never get any bones thrown their way? 15k would buy us a nice 2 week vacation in the Grenadines! Of course, we would never ask for money because we are capable of saving.

I am beginning to think this is the best scenario. The whole thing of being able to say we didit by ourselves is really overrated and difficult. There's no glory.

Being a divorced marriage counselor must be bad for business.

Well Mom's got a point in that endangering the unborn babe is top priority, just too bad she couldn't find a solution for that without doling out all the cash.

Sister-in-law can't find a less demanding job? I waitressed while preggo with both my kids. It was physical work but not harmful to me or baby and I could keep my hours down to about 30/week...and brought in pretty dam good money.

I actually kinda miss waitressing sometimes.

Amazingly, she has a ton of clients... Just goes to show that you may want to get a second opinion more often!

Sometimes, even though someone is a counselor or a therapist and "should know better", they somehow cannot apply what they know to their real lives. One of my co-workers is a substance abuse therapist, who keeps getting back together with her alcoholic husband, because "this time" he is going to stop drinking for good. Yeah, sure.Smiley: rolleyes

Who cares? None of this is related to you at all. If you weren't such a selfish asshole, maybe you'd appreciate having a mother who cares about her children enough to be involved.

My mother's dead, and while she was alive her only involvement in my life was putting out her cheap 10 cent cigars on my nipples. Poor you, you have it so rough with your wealthy educated caring mother who offers to help your brother's family. The humanity.

Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

This is what I am thinking. Instead of taking the easy way out, just cut back on the hours and make things work. That way she still has a job, benefits, and paid maternity leave.

Here's what I'm thinking, stop posting about your family's personal issues on a public message board without their consent because you don't have the balls to bring this to your mother and air your concerns.
