Total Lunar Eclipse this Wednesday!Follow

#1 Feb 17 2008 at 6:37 PM Rating: Good
Seeing as I am an astronomy freak, I am greatly looking forwards to this week's total lunar eclipse. I'm hoping my boyfriend and I will be able to find a good place to watch it in the evening, here in Florida. :)

For those of us in North America (Canada & the US),as well as Central America and the Caribbean, the Total Eclipse takes place during:
Newfoundland ~ 11:30 p.m. - 12:21 a.m.
Atlantic ~ 11:00 - 11:51 p.m.
Eastern ~ 10:00 - 10:51 p.m.
Central ~ 9:00 - 9:51 p.m.
Mountain ~ 8:00 - 8:51 p.m.
Pacific ~ 7:00 - 7:51 p.m.

This will also be viewable from everyplace in the world but Asia and Oceania. If you're in Europe or otherwise not in NA, you can check this chart to get a general idea of when you may be able to see the eclipse.

Just as an FYI, the last lunar eclipse was August 28, 2007, but we will not have another one until December 21st, 2010.

You can also feel free to visit NASA's official website for the eclipse here.

These sort of things make me glad I live in a slightly rural area. Makes it much easier to see celestial objects and events.

I plan to fly south and use this knowledge to convince some tribe of indigenous people that I have magical powers.

Possibly to Florida.

Eclipses are one of the few things of astronomy that can still be relatively easily enjoyed in a populated area - especially lunar ones.

Just watch the moon.

Yeah, it's the friggin moon! As long as the buildings aren't in the way you can see it in the glare of Times Square.

This will be a great opportunity to take the baby out for the evening.

Didn't they tell you that it wasn't supposed to go back in the first time they took it out?

Yeah I have a friend who lives in NYC who was concerned about not being able to see it. I suggested maybe trying Central Park...I figured there'd be other eclipse watchers there so it probably would be safer than normal. :)

Florida is a decent place to start, but stick to the center of the state or the panhandle...that's where you'll find people that will believe you. :P

I don't read the OoT forum, sorry. I get all of my "off-topic" needs met here, as do many others I'm sure; but I apologize for the duplicate post, I suppose.

In others news, partly cloudy here for Florida too, really hoping it clears up for tonight. >.>

Well, you know what they say, nine months trying to get out, rest of their life trying to get back in.

The weather will be too crappy here to see it, I'm sure. It's been cloudy all day with a slight chance of snow tonight.

It's perfectly clear here tonight...but watching an eclipse in real time is about as interesting as watching my baby sleep. Novel for the first five minutes or so, but you don't notice much unless you leave and come back awhile later.

The weather was crappy all day, then it cleared up about an hour before the eclipse. It was nice to watch, but it was about 15 degrees, so I didn't stay out for very long.

Clear skies here in Chicago. Eclipse was beautiful, but couldn't find any camera that didn't blur incoherently when I tried to snap a few pictures.

Oh well.

The skies were too overcast here in s.a.t.x. I only caught a brief glimpse while I was outside on a break.
