Latest news reports 18 injured, 3 dead (including the gunman).

Un-fücking-believable.

If only they'd handed out guns at orientation, this sort of mindless tragedy could have been avoided.

The souls of your dead class mates would be shocked to hear you use such language when we are only thinking of how to best protect similar people from such horrors.

For anybody interested, here's the link to the NIU web page where they're making updates on the situation.

As of last update, the gunman committed suicide, and a press briefing is going to be held in about 10 minutes.

Oh no!!! 18 White young adults I've never met died! Let's all shed a giant tear!! What's that? 1800 Africans were beheaded in Sudan? Fuck those niggers, they don't look like me, so who cares if they die.

You're sooooo sensitive. Grow up.

If they don't care enough to give every Sudanese a machete to prevent it, then fuck 'em.

Haha, as you know this is one of those things that really annoy me. People who want me to care about *press reports* of people I have zero connection to dying. Not because they're people, mind you, but because there's MEDIA COVERAGE of their deaths.

It's ludicrous and arbitrary, and I refuse to pretend not caring about these people I have no connection to dying makes me callous when the people overwhelmed with despair for them could care less about the other people who were murdered today because THEY DIDN'T GET PRESS COVERAGE.

Someone's murdered, somewhere EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. I refuse to bring my life to a screeching halt mourning all of these corpses I have no connection to, regardless of if they capture a news cycle or not.

Assholes that want to pretend that if it's not a news event, no one died and therefore isn't worth caring about are callous in the extreme, valuing vastly higher the lives of people who's deaths are spoon fed to them so they can feel so good about not being dead.

People die. People get murdered. The lives of 18 people is equally as meaningful as the lives of the next 18 people who will be murdered before the bottom of the hour AND NOT MORESO because you're lazy asses read about them on CNN.

Nexa tels me I missed the fact that you actually attend this school.

I apologize completely. You have every right to be outraged by my callous ***, as I do, in fact, have a tenuous connection to this event visa vi you. I'm sorry, man. That sucks. Really. Be safe and aware and there for the people who will need you if able, and not afraid to ask for help if you need it.

Don't forgive me, but know that I wouldn't have responded the way I did if I'd been paying more attention.

Sorry, sincerely.

Oh, I dont know. I think Demea posted it and is a tad unhappy due to the fact it happened at his school instead of some regualr media coverage schtick. And that maybe, just maybe, someone he actually knows could have been hurt.

Believe it or not, one of my oldest friends was a student at Virginia Tech when the shooting occurred there. I just got off the phone with his mom after about 30 minutes, so at least I have somebody who can help me understand what happened today.

I was very lucky to be involved in a gun incident at a high school where no one was hurt...but I remember how scary it was, and what it felt like not being able account for everyone right away, and waiting for every slip of information. Hang in there, best wishes for your friends, and I'm really glad that you have people to talk to.
