I expect you're right. The fact that one is a socialist human rights activist and parliamentarian trained as a lawyer, the other a fundamnetalist religous fanatic in need of human rights advice from a lawyer and his MP, initially made me overlook the obvious indicator to conspiracy of them both being muslim.
I was really going more on the "Crap. We've got orders to record this prisoners visitations, and now this MP who's well known for making big stinks about perceived civil rights issues is showing up..." angle. They had to know that he'd likely make a big stink out of the fact that the conversation was recorded and they'd end up in hot water.
I guess we could assume that the security forces have some psychotic desire to infringe the rights and privacy of "darkies", but in this case it looks more like they were applying pretty standard methodologies. If the suspect and MP had been white Europeans, would this have made big news? If you even have to think about the answer, then you shouldn't have any problems re-assessing the degree to which the security guys were "rubbing their hands with glee" when they heard this MP was coming to visit the prisoner.
