So I got a new job..Follow

#1 Feb 04 2008 at 5:25 AM Rating: Good
And one of the first things I did, was check if I could log on to Alla. And, lo and behold, I can. Hence this thread. Funny how things work, innit?

I'm now a researcher in a think-tank. I've only been in the job for a few hours, and I'm a bit freaked out. The Microsoft Head Office, this place isn't. Not sure if you guys ever watched The Wire, but you know the shithole they walk into and which serves as the team's office, in the first season? Yeah, it's a bit like that where I work.

I don't know about anythign else, waiting for some guy to get off the phone so he explains the ins and outs a bit. And desperately hoping he lets me off early. First day is always a half-day, isnt' it?

Anyway, I did really miss you guys. Well, some of you guys anyway. Some of you I didn't miss at all. But it's nice to be back, especially in such exciting times, in the world, if not in =4.

So, to sum up, GFY, vive la France, and go Obama!

Bon Jour!

What will you be doing? Collecting statistics? Mathematical modeling? Printing, paperwork?

Hope it turns out to be a nice place to work, despite the dingy surrounds.

So, how are you going to claim using Alla as research?

I'm not sure. A bit of everything from what I've understood. There's only 8 of us here, so I'm sure i'll be forced to do some crap like fund-raising...

Still haven't figured that one out yet. The think-tank I'm in deals with policing, so maybe the influence of MMOs on teenage cyber-criminality through forums. Or maybe the worldwide stigmatisation of gold-sellers on MMO forums. Or, if I ever need exemples of criminally stupid behaviour, then I guess there's always gbaji...

Anyway, additional suggestions are always welcome. Looks like I'm here for the day. I already miss the public sector...

Congratulations! No one ever hires me to be part of a think-tank. Smiley: glare

It's cause I'm blonde, I know it.

Privacy issues on the internet. Is it legal to post PMs in public threads without permission?

Privacy again. Under what conditions is it allowable for an Admin to give out another poster's private details?

Verbal abuse. What constitutes harassment and harassing behaviour?

Suing for psychological damage. What happens if a troll breaks someone?

Stalking. Do intervention orders cover proximity in the same threads? PMs sent to the stalkee?

Age of consent. If your partner is legal in his/her country, but not in yours, is it legal to cyborsex them?

Yes, it's probably because you're blonde. In my office (if you can call it that), we're all brunettes, and proud of it.

If I were you, I'd refuse to fill in those pesky ethnic and foliage diversity forms. Clearly, they are not being used purely for "statistical purposes".

So, is anyone on this forum not a researcher?

Also, who's rating me down for having a new job? Did you want me to stay in my crap-*** boring mind-numbingly stupid old job so that I could become a brain-less zombie by 30 and give up hope all hope of ever achieving anything remotely close to the dreams we build, on the wings of a prayer, for a dime and silver lining? Is that what you want?? Huh??

You could probably get a job in a dunk-tank.

RP better hope they're not intercepting and reading his posts.

I had to do that at a company fund raising outing. The staff enjoyed dunking me, since I was their boss. The other people around who were also there to dunk people, didn't really care a whole lot. My man bewbs aren't big enough I guess.

That's a point. Any e-mails or electronic activity done from or to work, I think the employer has a moral right to monitor, and I think that the Network supervisor certainly can. I am pretty sure in law in Australia they have free reign to do so.

Funny you should say that, because internet stopped working after my last post on this thread. Coincidence? Conspiracy? Constipation?

Stay tuned for further exciting developments on this fascinating story...

They stopped you posting here because it's primarily US based posters, and they don't want their organisation to become a septic tank.
