Fine, you're retarded.

On a completely unrelated note, today's Proverb of the Day was "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree".

If you can't handle people calling your children lope-headed window lickers, you shouldn't make them a topic of discussion at all. In any forum.

I posted about them for well over 6 months before anyone made a jab. And they only made jabs at them after it was the "cool thing" to start making fun at me. Excuse me if I didn't realize after so long of posting about them with no comment that others would decide to make them the subject of ridicule.

Well, then you rate those posts down and don't post about things you don't want commented on.

Let me give you an example (forgive me Katie). A few years ago, Katie experienced a miscarriage while she was trying for a long time to have a child. She may have had several, I forget. At any rate, she went through a long and painful battle to try and have a child and she was unable to concieve. To mock such a thing is, to me, unacceptable. Years later, we still have an occasional jab at Katie for her inability to conceive. I don't report them to an admin, I just quietly rate them down. They will continue to be posted, and I will continue to rate them down. It won't make much difference, but that's the way the forum is run, by the collective vote. People can determine on their own whether or not they choose to keep making the jokes, it's up to them. I don't rate people down for calling someone fat, or stupid, or lazy, or retarded, but for me, the miscarriage jokes are my PERSONAL line. I don't expect to force that line on other people.

That's just the thing. I did stop posting about them. I did rate down those who made the jabs. Those people stopped, then suddenly I had Kaelesh, who hadn't said anything to me for the most part, calling them window lickers, speed bumps and asserting that I couldn't feed my own children. I went into IRC and complained. Not for something to be done about it, but because it pissed me off. It pissed off my husband even. Well, it apparently also pissed off some admins. I rated the posts down. I even reported the images I found unacceptable. And yeah, it made me angry. As it would you or anyone else that could be in that position.

Yes, it would make me angry. Evidently though, the difference between you and I is that I would chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way and carry on. I *certainly* wouldn't be in here feeding the fire.

It was bound to happen eventually. Your whinging, cloying, clinging, and overwhelmingly attention-desperate posting style has put a lot of people off and you're an idiot for thinking this ample store of ammunition would go unused forever.

In Melody's defense, if she just spammed "Look at me!", she'd probably get muted after a while.

I started wandering into the OOT, like some others, simply because the action around here had gotten pretty slow. To my suprise, some of the posts had gotten entertaining and weren't a plethera of "What are you listening to right now?" "What's your favorite movie?" etc etc. Granted, those still pop up occasionally, but on the whole the post content has vastly improved from what it was 2 years or so ago. IMO some of those posters have developed past the Sandbox, at least enough to survive here and be accepted. Some show occasional flashes of brilliance, but wouldn't make it for long.

A few months ago I noticed people breaking the swear filter and generally being obnoxious, and was suprised they weren't being smacked down. When I questioned it, I was told that was ok now. I'm not sure when that determination was made or by whom, but my first thought was "So the OOT has become the Asylum now?" Granted, that's not all the Asylum is but I could see where that decision would lead, and it didn't take long to get there.

I'll echo Joph in that I'm not all about mass transferring of threads. Simply put, the rules that were for the Sandbox should be enforced so posters like Melody can take about their waterhead kids without being blasted for it. That's why it's there in the first place. I'm sure some of the OOT'ers who have "graduated" will be a little resistant to moving here. Much like we were when the OOT was split all those years ago. But they will adapt.

I, for one, would welcome many of them here. With a hearty GFY, and possibly an occasional RACKTM. At least it would make forum=4 a daily visit again in stead of an occasional one when it gets really slow at work.

It did. Hellboy called Anna's mother. In his defense, though, it wasn't an attack. He was concerned because she'd "disappeared" for a few weeks, and being socially awkward to an excruciating degree (and, apparently, drunk) he started trying to find out what had happened to her. I feel that was more an example of him just not really understanding boundaries, and I don't think he meant to hurt or scare anyone.

You'll have to excuse me if my sympathy (and empathy) in this situation is non-existant.

You didn't get the half of it. They went to some lengths to figure out who she was since they didn't have much information about me to go on except my real name and the fact that I grew up in Maine. It was horribly embarrassing. We don't talk about the incident. He didn't mean harm but it was a stupid thing to do.

As far as the issues of the move, I guess if it makes sense. I think it's a bit weird to have these strange type of differences in the same website. I don't know if it'll ever make sense to have a 13+ OOT place on Allakhazam that is full of niceness, especially when it is self-moderated. On the other hand, you will get more threads from Rimesume, maybe about cars or about 13 year old girls that are whores, and we all know how fascinating that is.

LOL, and as far as Melody goes, I have sympathy for her to some extent but it's exhausting to have someone in the forum who is constantly begging for acceptance from everyone. People criticize your kids because they want to hurt you. People want to hurt you because they want you to shut the fuck up. Maybe that's harsh but every fucking thread contains something about you wanting validation. Goddamnit, I wish you'd use this forum for something else other than some type of dumping ground for your random thoughts and low self-esteem.

And this is all about your own personal freakout. We don't need a report of a dissociated suicide attempt on a fucking out of topic forum of a message board. Jesus Christ.

Edited to add: Breaking swear filters requires too much work.

The problem is that some posters are immature and under the belief that everyone should be "thick skinned," and not that they should be slightly more respectful. I'd rather prefer that these select few not turn the OOT into the asylum, if for no other reason than the homogeneity would further dull these boards.

I often kvetch "play nice," in many of the OOT threads where fights erupted, but I'm really less interested in carebearism and more concerned with avoiding the insipid caws of "cnut," repeatedly echoed.

I did the same thing. And was also told that it was now "okay until it isn't". Now that it "isn't", I figure the best course is to tell the offenders to go to the appropriate place to cause offense.

In the interest of accuracy, I feel it's important to correct some terminology that has appeared in this thread. I've never called Melody's children retarded, window-lickers or developmentally sound. I have called them rotten fruit, adorable little burdens and ashtrays.

Now some of you may have noticed I have 11k posts now. Well, this is because I do post in the OoT. When this place started getting slow, and I simultaneously acquired a lot of things that I needed to say I began going there. I like to type. So I wandered to the sandbox, and began being my usual cheery self there. There was a steady stream of idiots, the likes of which had rarely been seen outside of Melody's household. It was good, I ate until I was full. I also decided that some of the denizens of that place, mostly those possessing vaginas, were pretty funny, smurt posters.

I blame myself for the way the OoT has become more profane and, frankly, better. Of course, if threads start being moved from there to here, I'm totally fine with that, because I'm comfortable posting in either forum. But personally, I think they should be moved to the Vanguard forums, because that place could really use some more traffic.

I post where I feel I have worthwhile input. A good portion of Asylum threads seem to have political themes, and that is one place where I'm woefully under-opinionated and grossly uninformed. So I don't participate in those threads as anything I would say would probably be ridiculed. I've never had the urge or need to get involved in a war of words with another poster, and I doubt I would be much good at it.

I'll probably just continue to read both forums and add my thoughts wherever relevant. I do enjoy the Asylumites though, after getting to know them in the Lunatics guild they really are good people, just don't be a fuckwit and you'll be ok.
