He gave one amazing victory speech. Recent 'debate' here at the Jophleael household has centered around old-school politics, and Obama's unwillingness to give up pointing out untruths that the Clinton camp was levelling at him.

Joph's position, if I understood it correctly over the yelling, was that no matter 'the game', he could not conceive of voting for someone who could willfully bend the truth and justify the means by the ends, as it was pretty much what our current administration did. This makes perfect sense to me, as Joph is the most ethical man I know, and of course it irks him. I understand that, but to insiders, there was a grudging admiration for the way the Clintons could find a ***** in that shining armor and exploit it repeatedly and effectively, getting Obama off-message and effectively preempting him at times by making him reactive when his greatest strength is how proactive he can be.

I contended that B. Clinton was playing strategery, and that Obama was reacting exactly they way they the Clinton camp wanted him to, getting dragged into petty slapfights and games of telephone. I wanted him to one-up them strategically, which involved him representing himself as other than he is, ie, sympathetic to the Clintons but radically different. For me, it was an issue of marketing, plain and simple, and he was being outmarketed.

Tonight, he spoke and acted and said exactly what he needed to say. He clocked in, in my book. People that want Hillary want someone who can deal with the machine that few outside the beltway will ever know or understand or even admire. what he had to do is set himself as a new machine-an upgrade, and I think he's finally taking steps toward that. He was electric. Good for him.

He will never win the nomination, and even if he does, he is not electable. Too far left.

A moderate is going to be elected. The only way that Obama could win a general election is if Huckabee somehow managed to win the nomination.

Since that is not going to happen, then Hillary is the best scenario for the left.

He's so adorable, I can see why you married him now.

Anyway, Obama should drop out of the race. If this doesn't send a message to him that it's over, nothing will. It's going to be McCain vs Clinton(s) in a battle of who can say the craziest ****.

Oh well. Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel burn.

More to the point, I don't see any reason (based on her campaign) to have more faith in her candor or levels of manipulation while in office than I have in our current president. And if I'm willing to ***** about him, I should be willing to ***** about her.

The usual retort this primary is "Well, it'll be hard in the general election" but that's not really the point. I'm not turned off by the attacks that Obama is receiving, I'm turned off by the attacks that Clinton is presenting. Call it idealism or naivity or whatever but whoever is running needs to earn my vote. They don't get it solely by benefit of wearing a blue shirt. As is, I just don't trust her to do what's best for anyone but her.

Living in a blue state, it won't make any real difference, but I won't vote for her if she's on the general ticket. Most likely, I'll skip that part of the ballot entirely and just vote for Congressional and state positions.

With that, I'll leave you to smirk and giggle about my rejection of the reality of Machiavellian politics.

Really? I'd think the usual retort would be "You don't think you're grossly romanticizing Obama's level of integrity because you like him better?"

Organizing dock workers is a better visual. Joph, standing atop a rickety wooden crate, arms extended, exulting longshoremen to stand together against the oppressive taylorist ruling class! "To arms my large sweaty brothers! Carpe dockum!"

Or something.

Yeah, says the guys who swore Kerry would win in easily in 2004 along with many other fearless yet totally erroneous right wing predictions.

Obama will not be the next president of the United States.

I believe it will come down to Romney and Clinton. Romney can outlast Mccain due to finances. Plus those of us (myself included) who were for Thompson, are not jumping to McCain. Once polls which acurately show statistics post Thompson I think it will be more clear that Romney is now the front runner.

Obama's only real chance is that Edwards somehow manages to get enough delegates to become the kingmaker. Doubt that will happen though.

Of course, I am but a novice in comparison to your undoubtedly high qualification as a political analyst.

Wait, Obama is "too far left"? Only a cracksmoking rightwinger would call Obama far left.

Obama gives me that feeling that I haven't had since 1992. That unfamiliar feeling of optimism. I'm sure it will go away.

PS. Romney? The democrats should hope that Romney is nominated since no candidate on either side is easier to deconstruct and expose for his wild inconsistencies in his positions.

While he is no Kucinich, he is certainly no Evan Bayh either. Hillary is more along the center than Obama. She will most likely win the nomination and pick Bill Richardson as her Veep.

Maybe not, but it won't be because of his stands on the issues. That hasn't effected an election in this country in 70 years.

I am sorry, I was unaware that, in a thread praising Obama, that I was not allowed to state that Hillary is going to win. First I am called a novice, and now the relayer of the obvious.

Oh, and about Richardson...I think you can just about damn bank on it. He can deliver New Mexico, a swing state and he has the ability to motivate the hispanic vote.

Since you seem to know all, who do you think she would pick?

I know you're completely ignorant about politics, but you REALLY think that the first woman nominee of a major party, who is handled extensively is going to pick an uncharismatic Hispanic as her running mate because he MAY be able to deliver New Mexico and it's 5 fuking electoral votes? Really?

WHY? Because you know his fucing name is why, which makes him a lock at this point. It must a simple restful life, just ignoring the entire body of reality that lies beyond your personal knowledge. Well, simple, at least.

Stick to Nascar and pork rinds, Gomer.

As long as we're throwing around off the cuff predictions, my crystal ball says that the general comes down to Clinton & McCain. McCain takes the independents and "change" vote and wins in a squeaker, giving us another four years of Republican White House-dom. Clinton is considered to have lost the White House for the Democrats when it should have been a sure thing and never gets another real shot at the Oval Office.
