Morning all,

Just got a call from my wife who owns part of financial advisor business. She could not believe how selfish the 25 year old boob girl they hired 2 years ago has become.

Here are the facts.

1.) Girl is paid a good salary. Not great, but good. Especially for living where we do.

2.) Company has a deferred profit sharing plan. Basically, the company sets aside an extra amount in a retirement plan equal to 25% of her salary. This does not come out of her salary.

3.) Employees in company ALSO get a nice bonus at the end of the year based on how good the company does. Company does well = 9k bonus (her 2007 bonus). Company does not do as well, then she gets less.

Company stresses teamwork. Yes, your salary may be ok for the job you are doing, but the deferred benefits are HUGE.

This boob girl basically said she and her husband, whose own job is not up to her standards (he is a wine rep), can't live off of what they make (80k a friggin year). Their 25 years old. She wants her bonus and profit sharing up front, thus negating the whole "Teamwork" aspect that has made the company the success it is.

They recently bought a 200k duplex in a nice neighborhood. She drives a 2 year old jetta that she pays for every month. Therefore they live well above their means, despite making good money.

I ain't saying I walked to school uphill both ways, but these frigging kids coming out of college have no idea what work is and expect a company to just dump piles of money in their lap because they have a degree.

no argument from me on those points.

few things have changed in my life that i HATE about the corp. world today.

1. no longer is there any loyalty from either employer to employee and vis a vis.
1a. this is due to the mass layoffs of the 80s and massive corp. greed that showed its head of that time.
2. getting 1 job for 20+ years just does not happen any more. except for getting a job with the gov. this includes military service and post office work.
2a. this is the results of #1
3. people with a college degree are a dime a dozen and having a BA or even a Masters is no longer a guarantee of better pay or even a job.
4. people believe that you MUST have credit to live in todays world.... this is one of the biggest lies taught to us by the BANKS who make money off your credit.
5. as a results of the mistakes and lies your parents (people who were kids in the 70-early 90s) were told and taught from the banks kids today have never learned how to live within their means. (thus your statement about the boob girl with her over priced house and car payment etc...)

all of these and many others are reason why people today are having such a hard time with dealing with the lower money they are making from jobs and the fact that employers can no longer keep good workers and often fire their best employee's just to replace them with someone who is cheaper in the monthly payroll even though in the long run will cost them more in mistakes and lost business down the line.

College degrees are numerous now and it has made the job market very competitive. So it really depends on whether you really are applying the degree you have to the career you're following.

But it does bug me that there are people that assume that because they just got their degree, they're automatically entitled to a job that pays at least $50,000 minimum.

I have a friend who's pissed that as a secretary she's not making at least $70,000 in her area.

Bub, it's very simple. If she's worth it, you pay her more (so the fact that she's 25 doesn't really factor in, right?). If she's not, you tell her that and let her decide if the salary, benefits and bonuses she's getting are sufficient. If not, she can go look for greener pastures.

That's the great part about a free market. Labor competes for their pay, just as companies compete for your business. She's going to ultimately make what her skills are worth. If that means that she gets paid 100k, then that's what it means. If you think you can replace her with someone else for the same pay, then make that clear to her and let her make up her own mind.

Pretty simple really.

You're a bitter uneducated **** who's threatened by women?

Doesn't seem to be worth discussing with anyone but your therapist.

I was reading something about the Y generation that pretty much said that, because they had a collaborative upbringing, they feel more of a sense of entitlement when it comes to their work. I see this quite a bit among my staff. It's a completely different work ethic--they feel that they get what they feel they're due or they're outta there vs. working their way up or working for the greater good of the team.

The thing is, if that's their work ethic, it's not going to change with anything you do, and it's her choice to stay or go if she doesn't get what she wants. I run my office on the basis of teamwork and seniority, and if they don't want to work that way, it's in their best interests and mine that they move on.

ethics havnt changed much. i remember hiring kids right out of college for work at levitz furniture when i worked there. they were dumb founded and shocked when you sent them out to unload a trailer from a furniture company. sweat? labor? for a little over minimum wage?

most of them didnt last more than a week.

its a matter of social economical class than it is a generation gap. the people who grew up with something close to nothing worked hard, didnt complain, and didnt expect a whole lot. the people who grew up wanting for nothing, middle class, 2 parents, good schools seemed to think work was for yard men and hired help. they just couldnt make the connection that THEY were the hired help. and they expected not a wage but a life style. what? i cant drive a BMW? yournot paying me enough.....reguardless of what their job actually was adn what it was worth.

with the college pre paids and other options now, more kids are hitting the work force who have never done actual manual labor and up untill thatpoint have maintained a certain life style. personally, actual work experience trumps a college education every time when it comes to looking for an emploee.

Hell, when I was a teenager working at McDonald's I jumped at the chance to unload trucks and haul Shit from the freezers. Physical labor was a treat. At the auto parts store I was throwing around cases of oil and truck batteries that weighed almost as much as I did. Then after eight years of sitting on my *** doing helpdesk support my new field tech job feels so much better, hauling computer terminals around the streets of Manhattan.

In the words of Lewis Black, "These are the best years of your life. Enjoy them, because when you get out of College, you're fucked.
