WASHINGTON - A former U.S. congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday, accused of being part of a terrorist fundraising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.

The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.

A 42-count indictment accuses the Islamic American Relief Agency of paying Siljander $50,000 for the lobbying — money that turned out to be stolen from the U.S. Agency for International Development.
I don't know what would turn a Congressman against his own nation like that but I found this unrelated article:
USA Today wrote:
Siljander had attracted controversy with his strong religious convictions _ he issued a tape recording that asked local fundamentalists to help "break the back of Satan" by praying and fasting for his re-election. Upton's upset of Siljander embittered Siljander's fellow conservatives in the House, with Rep. Robert Dornan, R-Calif., accusing Upton of running a "slimy, lying campaign."
Apparently Siljander realized that God hates democracy and wanted his servant to help overthrow America in the name of Islam. That's how I'm writing it into my TV movie script, anyway.

In before Gbaji claims it is just a ploy of the dems to make the GOP look like asses.

What Gbaji doesn't realize, is the GOP does fine job on their own, and doesn't need the help from the democrats.
