We now generally accept that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be a consequence of fighing in horrific wars.

In WW1, over 300 of the British soldiers executed for cowardice, desertion or 'Lack of Moral Fibre' are now believed to have been suffering from PTSD or 'Shell Shock'.

There is a strong push for them to be officially pardoned, particularly from their families.

Where executed WW1 'deserters & cowards' appear to have been suffering from Shell Shock, should they be pardoned?
Yes:40 (88.9%)
No:5 (11.1%)
Total:45

The technological jump that resulted in the totality of destruction during WWI isn't properly remembered b/c of the understandable focus on WWII. And Shell Shock wasn't well understood or well-researched then but I've seen old films of former WWI veterans (b/c most good psych. research/writers came out of England during the first part of the century) and seeing them in wordless terror justifies the pardon, especially 80 years after the fact.

Mass destruction on a scale never known before plus the protracted helplessness of trench warfare. Those poor fUckers.

Didn't Patton already apologize to one of them? I say name it a blanket apology and call it good.

Patton had a time machine? This explains so much.

When are they going to pardon those who suffered the same fate from the Napoleonic wars?

They were legitimately too terrified of the French to fight.
