It's a long weekend and Smash and I will likely go see a movie (or perhaps two...we're crazy like that). I already know I want to see Atonement, Juno, and There Will Be Blood...anything else we should consider just to ensure that we argue about it until we both just throw up our hands and drive home after watching absolutely nothing?

We've already seen Charlie Wilson's War. I can't decide if I want to see Cloverfield or not.

Go see Persepolis. If you in the Boston area, you can go to the Kendall theatres and eat around there. You should go to Helmand.

I'm not sure where we'll be. I may drag him off to western mass to look around and stay for a night out that way. We will, of course, have to be back in time for football on Sunday, haha.

Haha. Pretty much all my family in San Diego has agreed that we're going to go to the early Mass so we can watch the football game together.

Is No Country for Old Men still playing? Coen brothers can't steer you too far wrong.

I've seen Firefly and while I'm sure it's true that you have to spend money to make money, I don't waste money renting movies. Especially in the case of sci fi: I have enough geeky friends to borrow dvd sets from.

It's in Netflix's "watch online" catalog. Although it seems more like the kind of film I'd rather watch from the couch.

I saw it in the theater a year or so ago when it came out. In fact, it was the first movie Smash and I went to see together in a theater. He kept casting sideways, "what the hell have you brought me to" type glances and afterward declared that I was never again to choose a movie, hahahaha.

He loved it really.

I think the first movie we rented was "You, Me, and Everyone We Know"...which was billed as a "romantic comedy", haha. I remember clearly the moment he uttered, "What fresh hell is this?"

We usually have fairly similar tastes in films, which is good. He really liked Shop Girl though, and still likes to tease me about my undying hatred for it.

The Academy of Music in Northampton is a lovely theatre. And then you can go to Spoleto.

PS. Have you been to the Book Mill in Montague? It's such a fun day trip. If you like used books and um...mills.

Smash will hate the vast majority of Atonement.

Both Juno & There Will be Blood are currently playing @ Coolidge Corner, and there's plenty of food there to eat in between flicks.

I'm off to see Cloverfield Friday either downtown or at the Fenway theatre. Although, it's got a 56% so far on Rotten Tomatoes, & after this gem:

Quote:
Think Blair Witch meets Godzilla, and since that isn't the first or last time you'll read that comparison, think of a movie that results in something less profound.

I may rethink that.

Early Laurel & Hardy, or anything directed by Carlos Saura.

Or if you're after intellectual stimulus, there's always Police Academy

ohhhhh...we may have to try and avoid it at all costs if we want to see anything else. We're both book junkies.

He really liked Shop Girl though

That's a dirty lie.

I just didn't think it was valid to dismiss the whole movie because he paid her school loans off. At least I think that was what happened, someone next to me was shouting "*****!!" the whole time.

:)

Go see Persepolis

I'll wait for the DVD. Oh hang on, here it is.

I already know I want to see There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, There Will Be Blood, and There Will Be Blood.

I think we're on the same page this time!

I dismissed Shop Girl mostly on the basis of it sucking ***. People who write such flat, disjointed script worry and anger me. Also, Claire Danes in anything not period is just a waste of my time.

After finally seeing all 3, There Will Be Blood completely blows Atonement and Juno out of the water. The comparison isn't even close.
