Apparently they've opened their "Watch Instantly Online" library to unlimited time for viewing. I heard others say that they got an e-mail about it but I never did so I'm passing the news along. Should be nice for those second-tier movies that never seen to break the top 50% of my queue because there's always a DVD I want to see more.

Looks like I don't have to wait for 4 seasons of The Wire to arrive at my house 2 by two. Hurray!

I have the good fortune of having unscrupulous technically adept friends, but it sounds nice for people who don't.

Nevermind, read your edit. The "ethnically" part made me believe you were making a dig at The Wire, heh.

The way he phrased "thieving brownies"?
Then again, I doubt Smash knows anyone with any melanin.

The wire is the best show on TV, hands down.

It is.

I could Bittorrent what I wanted to see or wander shady websites but it's nice to just browse, click and watch. And I don't mind paying the rather minor fee for the service.

I have surprisingly few ethical issues with people giving me free legitimate backup copies of their legally acquired content. Trucks fall over in Cambridge all the time. It's the narrow streets.

I wasn't joking, it seems like a good deal. If it wasn't a DRM stream, I'd consider it.

Well, I tried it and it played like a champ on my system. Good picture quality on my 22" wide screen monitor (played fullscreen) and it never hitched due to lag or buffering. I'll definately use it to clear some of the collected sediment out of the bottom of my queue barrel. I'm paying for my normal DVD subscription anyway so more movies coming to me for the same price is okay by me.

With a netfix account you can insantly watch a certain number of hours worth of movies per month online anyway. This sounds like it just takes the cap off that number.

I do it now and then but the picture quality suffers in comparison to dvd. That may be only a big deal to people who have bad eyeballs like me.

True that. But I think human nature is to avoid that sort of thing until you know it's all free and clear. Anyway, I just thought it was news worth sharing.

The image quality was good enough for me but compared to watching stuff in YouTube grain-o-vision, I'm probably easily pleased.

There's a link you can hit on the site that shows you how many hours of viewing you have available to you at any given time.

I did try to watch The 4D Man (cause you know I love my cheesy sci-fi) and the sound didn't work, dammit. Everything else has worked fine.
