I've been watching videos of Guitar Hero on YouTube for the past 30 minutes or so, and I can't help but think how much practice goes into getting 100% on the songs on Expert mode. Then I think to myself, "yeah, but they're still playing it on a little plastic guitar."

Guitar Hero?
Yay:52 (54.2%)
Nay:17 (17.7%)
Pork:27 (28.1%)
Total:96

For those of you that are totally oblivious, Guitar Hero is just like Dance Dance Revolution, only instead of awkwardly stepping on specific symbols to really bad j-pop music, you're awkwardly pressing buttons on a tiny plastic guitar to kickass rock n' roll.

And to reference the "skill" I was talking about, check out this.

It's fun don't get me wrong. Few friends, some booze, maybe a splif but I'd rather invest the time and practice to my Gibson.

Also, Bacon rules.

Mr. Mindel and I like to play together once in a while, but we play on medium (sometimes hard), so it's just stress-free and fun. Like Kae said, if I'm going to invest time in something like that, I'd rather practice an actual instrument.

It's a video game, just like any other. You practice to advance and ultimately beat it.

It has nothing to do with making music, but is a fun game. Smiley: smile

It's a fun game. Rock Band is way better, but GH is still fun.

I'd also like to point out that it's pretty tricky even getting 100% on medium songs, let alone expert. Or maybe I just suck.

Dittoing everyone else, it's a fun game but still a game.

Personally, I have more fun on the couch heckling Flea's sister as she tries to play Smiley: laugh

I've played it a bunch at the old frathouse. Usually halfway through an evening of this, one of our other roomates would grunt in disgust, go grab his Fender and rock out to whatever we were trying to play.

It's pretty fun and a lot harder than I thought it would be. The dorkiness of playing air guitar only increases it's value, IMO. Plus, that Slayer song rules.

Huh. I think the game is incredible and i have 1, 2 and 3 (i beat Rock the 80s in like 2 days and returned it, wasnt impressed). I've also played guitar for nearly 10 years now. I cant believe its been that long and i still play very mediocre at best.

Its just a rhythm game who's controller happens to be shaped like a guitar and you look like less of tool playing it than DDR. I promise there is no illusion of rock stardom by your average player... Though i did see this video of an asian guy who was pretty into it.

Been playing Rock Band recently though. Drums > me. I think that if you can play drums on expert in that game, you could do pretty well on a real drum set since you actually have to teach your brain to make your arms and legs do 3 things independently at the same time.

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw2P_gim1Gc thats nuts. that song is ridiculous.

Rock Band effectively killed Guitar Hero. The game is almost as much fun for spectators as it is for the people playing it (although the drums are a lot of work). Alcohal fueled Rock Band can be epic.

And unlike GH, you have to play with other people in Rock Band in order to progress & at least one person has to play on hard (at the very least) in order to unlock all the songs (Timmy and the Lords of the Underworls is the shizznet!).

If only you could by another guitar for X-Box before February without buying GH so someone could play bass...

It's quite difficult on drums and guitar, but who doesn't know the words?

Get it. Some of the most fun I've ever had was with Guitar Hero & Rock Band.

Also, Expert is fun Smiley: grin.

but not Through the Fire and Flames, that one is just carpal tunnel bait.

My brother's entire family are Guitar Hero addicts. I LOVE the idea of Rock Band, only because I think I could kick *** on vocals and finally I wouldn't suck at video games. Smiley: frown

My GH pride is that I managed to beat this. That took more practice than I'd care to admit.

I play my bass and GH about equally, but like others said, one is a game and one isn't, and the game just tends to be more fun when picked up on a whim. Regardless, I'd take Rock Band over Guitar Hero any day of the week, except for the damn fact that my peripherals keep breaking. I've had to send back for a guitar because the up strum stopped working, and the second drum pedal I've had recently broke, damn thing has no reinforcement.

I like Rock Band better. But I picked both up for the girl in the past year or so. Which amazingly enough, she kicks fucking *** on the drums. I personally love playing Through the Fire and the Flames on hard. Can't make that jump to expert though. Then it wouldn't be fun, just work.

It's starting to sound like Asylum Rock Band should happen.

I call anything but vocals, or we'll fail.
