While it has been out for awhile I finally had the chance to sit down and watch this movie, I had wanted to see it in the theater, but with kids, thats hard to do.

The book by Neil Gaimen is my favorite newer fairytales. I've read it three times now, the last being when the movie was about to come out. On the off chance I would have been able to see it I wanted the details fresh in my mind. There were several differences from the book to movie, but that always happens. I was pleased though, to see that the adaptations fit well enough into the movie so it held as close as possible. The ending, was of course, happier than the book. But much of the story was the same. If you havent seen it, it's a great flick. My biggest issue was the took out my favorite quip from the star. I guess to keep it PG13. Too bad, because it was the one part of the book I always chuckle at.

Great presentation, great acting, all around two thumbs up.

Had that movie heavily ragged on by a number of people so I havent bothered with it. I am still not in love with Gaiman like so many people seem to be. American gods was ok, but Anasi boys was pretty awful. Meh.

I liked it. It wasn't the end all and I've not read the book so I can't compare the end results. I still found it amusing but it's not something I'd have paid money to watch in a theater.

Gaiman is God. Sandman is one of my favorite works of any media. We even share the same birthday. As of yet, though, I haven't read or seen Stardust, though we had gotten opening day tix that we missed out on.

Mrs. Neph and I loved it. Except Di Nero. His character would have been a riot if played by anyone else imo.

Think of it as a sci-fi Princess Bride.

My problem with him is that he's been in so many movies, I am not able to detach him from say, Meet the Fockers.

I think that re-using famous actors can detract from the story in some cases, Robby was one.

His character was funny, but just couldn't see past him.

I was in stitches when he was doing the whole little dancing routine with the feather fan. Then I caught Raging Bull on cable and couldn't reconcile the two images in my head.

I'm sure he'd be tickled to know that after his performances in Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Untouchables and Godfellas that what you remember him most for is that movie

See I thought that De Niro was hilarious. I wasn't real crazy about Michelle Pfeiffer. But damn she still looks good for someone over 50 Smiley: inlove

I just re-watched Brazil last week (Hurray for HBO on Demand!), and still find his role as the freelance duct repairmen hilarious. Certainly one of his more unique roles.

I also re-watched Deer Hunter just last night (Roomate hadn't seen it) & had forgotten how much I hated most of the first half of that flick.

As for Stardust, I'll wait for it to come out on Video. Big fan of some of Gaimen's work, although most of his newest stuff certainly hasn't been as good as Sandman.

The Eternals was pretty good though.

I only seen half of the movie so far, since I had to get up and make a side dish everyone wanted to go along with the prime rib, on Christmas day.

Jonwin and I hoped that my daughter would bring it over with other DVD's for Jonwin to watch while he has to keep his leg up. She couldn't it, but did bring over Mirrormask. Like most video's I get to watch at their house, I am always called away before the end, so borrowing them seems for me, the only way to see the end.

That was after work. You should have logged in, as I was drinking quite heavily to boot.

I watched it last night. It was fun. I'm not sure where the Princess Bride comparison comes in except that they were both clearly Fairytales.

I liked DiNero and thought he was quite suited for the role. My son, on the other hand, thought he acted the role okay, but had a hard time with him simply having a part in a fantasy movie.

At any rate the ligtning pirates were easily the best part of the film and their ship the visual highlight. The ghostly brothers were pretty fun too. Smiley: smile
