My great grandmother's maiden name was Standish and descended by way of Miles Standish grandson, to John Auden and Priscilla Mullins. Guess that makes me eligible for membership of The Mayflower Ladies.

Her father-in-law and my great great grandfather, is supposed to have stolen aboard a ship and sail to American from Dublin, with his mother's help to get out of his apprenticeship. Family is still looking for any proof.

On my mother's side, I been told a great x's? grandfather, helped Lynched Joseph Smith.

My mother also grew up a friend to children of some of the Chicago Mob. Her parents just told her, that she wasn't allowed into their homes.

Recently we found some evidence that we may have had someone serve as an Union Navy Officer in the Civil War. Haven't follow that up yet, as I have to get family tree from father, before I go looking into Navy Records.

Well, that makes us distant cousins then. Go figure! Additionally related to Longfellow and allegedly to Ben Franklin as well. Some of the "newer" immigrants to the US on my mom's side include Irish fleeing during the potato famine, and Polish fleeing something or other (also with tales of having only the clothes on their backs, so that would seem to have been a common occurrence). My mom's place is a veritable gold-mine of antiques (or "junk" if you prefer), most of which is from the 1800s or older.

On my dad's side, I don't know much first hand. I do know that his mom kept a huge book of genealogy (with various spellings of our Germanic name). I do know that she was half Sioux, but not much else. I did semi-recently run into a guy working for one of our vendors who was the spitting image of my older brother, came from the mid-west, had one of the variants of my last name and said that his family had a lot of genealogy info. He actually started the conversation by noting my last name and asking "Hey! Was any part of your family from Missouri?". Funny thing...

Most of the stories aren't specific to people though. And oddly, I get more of them from my cousins then my own parents. And mostly they're more recent stuff like "Oh yeah! Your great uncle Bill was the idiot who got drunk, swerved while driving on the old trestle bridge off old highway 94 and ripped his own arm off... Yeah. Good times!

I'm a total mutt from all over the place. I heard somewhere that I'm distantly related to Kevin Bacon though.

A mystery no more

Distantly related to Ferdinand Marcos. When his dictatorship ended in the Philippines, that's when pretty much all of my relatives left the country. There was some serious backlash occurring.

I got nothing. I don't know my ancestry before my grandparents, so I'll tell you about my uncle. He went to one of those geneology institutes and they ran a comparative DNA test to determine what ethnicities were in his lineage. He's married to my aunt, so no blood relation to me.

They matched up his DNA to various peoples, I forget the details. The striking part was that they claim that 10% of his DNA had no known match. We think it's proof of alien visitors making sexy time with earthlings some generations ago.
