No, I clearly think you are an animal rights advocate so please repeat that for us a few more times. I don't think you're appearing objective enough yet.

Well, I'm trying to figure out who you're arguing with. I'm saying they're ethically consistent, you're responding saying that they're wrong. Of course they're wrong, it's an insane premise. They're just not inconsistent. The Catholic church's position on life is wrong, too, but they're consistent. The GOP's position on life, on the other hand is wrong *AND* inconsistent. IE: Don't allow abortions, but execute criminals. See the difference?

You're saying that their ethos is that death is preferable to suffering. I said that, as far as I know, PETA does not condemn animals as pets. I'm saying that if life as a pet does not fall under 'needless suffering', then killing them is unnecessarily harsh, and not ethical under PETA terms, albeit legal.

If the linked data from VDACS is indivative of PETA's record, it says 2981 of 9637 animals taken in were euthanized, not quite a third. Far cry from what this PETAKILLS.org is trying to somehow tout.

Personally I think PETA should stick to protesting and get out of the animal-rescue biz, seems a bit of a conflict of interest, and appartently the humane societies do a better job getting animals adopted.

So we have a very biased and misleading report, some personal stories about organizations not linked to PETA and Smash playing you all for a twist and turning it into a thread about killing slaves. All resulting from a topic brought out of the f'ucking sandbox of all places.

When did you all become retarded in a dumb way?

I'm reasonably sure that's not true.

From the final paragraph of the passage you just linked:
Quote:
Contrary to myth, PETA does not want to confiscate animals who are well cared for and "set them free." What we want is for the population of dogs and cats to be reduced through spaying and neutering and for people to adopt animals (preferably two so that they can keep each other company when their human companions aren't home) from pounds or shelters—never from pet shops or breeders—thereby reducing suffering in the world.

From the final paragraph of the passage you just linked:

Right. I get the impression, and that's not based on any actual knowledge, mind you, that they'd ten to turn down a lot more adoption candidates than most shelters.

The VDACS report that Katie linked would support that. 6375 cats, 4410 reclaimed, 2 adopted, 21 transferred, 1942 euthanized.

Ok? So they euthanize 30% like every other shelter that's not non kill?

Back that up?

It might be true but I'm skeptical and you threw it out there.

It's a fairly well established number. It's probably higher in a lot of places.

Actually, it was my own error. For some reason I thought you were saying that the average rate of euthanasia at "non-kill" shelters was 30%.

My preferred spin is "98.8% of non-recovered animals are euthanized." Smiley: grin

The numbver of euthenized animals is directly proportional to the number of asian food enterprises in the immidiate vicinity. I find that disturbing to say the least
