..but I guess I can't always rely on you folks to do the newsubjecting.

Today marks 6 years since the opening of the Guantanamo and 6 years of torturing prisoners who are being detained unlawfully (over a third without being charged and held indefinitely) in harsh conditions in the name of counter-terrorism. So far as I know, only one out of the 800ish detainees has even been convicted of anything.

I know there are a bunch of protests around the world today, but I don't have anything much else to add except that I find it entirely depressing that this is the world we live in.

Define "Torture".

Maybe someone will have an answer for us in another 6 years or so.

Just because they've been held for six years with a 0.00125% conviction rate doesn't mean that they're not all guilty of terrorism. We just need to torture them more until they confess to it.

Wonder if any of the local nightclubs will be having torture-themed parties in celebration of the anniversary??

Don't worry, you'll elect a democrat later this year and that person will close it so that we can go back to the days when Bubba passed on the opportunity to take people like Bin Laden in to custody when they're offered up since we'll have no place to put them.

I'm referring to the opening hours of the world's least successful convenience store, silly.

In the 40's I suppose that was convenient. Sign of the times I suppose. Can't even torture terrorists without someone getting their knickers in a knot these days.

EDIT: Bob I wish I could spell.

Their charisma is so overwhelming that we can't hold them in one of our mere mortal prisons while they await an, oh I don't know, trial where they can do silly little things like face their accusers, find out what they've been charged with, and have an opportunity to defend themselves?

I am *so* overtired and stressed out that when I read this post, I thought you were quoting me and that I'd made a mistake and I nearly started counting off the months on my fingers before I realized what was going on.

I'm going to go get a cup of coffee now.

Or Huckabee.

Yes, that's a joke. He's only got a slightly better chance in the general than McCain has in the pubby primaries.

Perhaps I should have narrowed it down and said a pinko-f'uck stick.

Oh, wait, they'd still qualify.

I find it odd to think that this is what future Arab-Americans discuss when people bring up the Japanese WWII internment camps. It seems the years pass and the more we learn as a country, the more we learn to ignore it.

For the record, I have no problem with the internment camps, either. I will also have no problem with rounding up wholesale all of the migrants from SotB when we go to war with Mexico.
