In the interest of bipartisan harmony, I am for a voter IDs provided that the ID is free of charge, ID locations are widely and easily available for everyone in US and free transportation is offered to and from the ID location 24 hours a day. In the event that someone is unable to leave their home, a representative from the ID Bureau (or whatever) will come to your home and take care of business there. Doesn't have to be forever but for at least the three months running up to any election which will require the ID.
Well maybeeee, if the ID card didn't catalog any personal information in a data-base. It can be a sigature that was witnessed by a notary public. You can even include a polaroid snapshot. Smiley: smile

Depending on your view of Democracy getting as many people to vote as possible is either a goal of it's own, or is unfair to educated voters, making their votes have equal value with people who are uninformed. Really I don't really care from an ethical standpoint. From a political standpoint, I obviously want more people to vote, because the more people that vote, the more my agenda is furthered.

Um... Did Smash just admit that his position is motivated by political advantage (the same thing he accused the "other side" of)?

Oh... And did he also just admit that his "agenda" is furthered by having more ignorant people vote? Why I believe he did! ;)

And the truth shall set you free...

I was explaining the opposition position. That's not the same as finding it valid. See, I don't have create fanciful opposition positions that don't exist to argue against, I can just use the actual ones.

One of the advantages of being a progressive.

You did say you don't care about the ethics, right? So that makes means your stated position is summed up in the following two quotes:

"getting as many people to vote as possible is ... unfair to educated voters, making their votes have equal value with people who are uninformed."

and

"I obviously want more people to vote, because the more people that vote, the more my agenda is furthered."

So your agenda is "unfair to educated voters", and is furthered by having as many uninformed voters as possible. Gee Smash! I've been saying that for years...!
