one of their comercials are advertising......11 million subscribers......

in the time since Vanguard launched, and lost 200,000 accounts, Blizzards ADDED "2 million" subcribers. thats just staggering, if its true.

also herd a rumor that Blizzard was bought by some company, SOE mabe. just what i herd. not verified.

If by rumor you mean press release
And by SOE you mean Activision

Then sure.

I'd call them ruppies in honor of scooby doo.

Pumors has a nice ring to it, though.

#6REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2008 at 4:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) only found out about it via word of mouth. the commercial i saw. 11 million. wow. that officially places ALL of SOE,s online game titles at less that 10 percent of Blizzards market all combined. it places their 2 biggest titles, EQ1 and EQ2 at less than 5 percent combined. didnt see any press release.

Activision won't bring anything to WoW, just like Blizzard won't bring anything to any Activision titles. It's a very blunt merger...combine financial juggernauts to head off EA and ensure there's a company larger than them. Activision & Blizzard remain seperate entities in how they function and go about their day to day business. That, and their wallet is fatter.

As long as Sony continues with EQ and EQII, I don't care.

And no, those numbers don't mean that the games are no good. Just that one is more appealling to the larger crowd.

reguardless, there are changes in the works. not a patch to fix an armor bug or make a skill "work as intended", i mean some serious changes. count on it.

I hope not, because imo a game like EQII is good as it is. Sure, changing it might improve it, from my point of view, but I'm not really convinced it will.

Let Sony develop a new one, granted that will take years and it is unlikely that if Sony wants to change their ways that they'll do it in a couple of years.

Actually companies merge to increase in size all the time.
Look at where General Motors came from.

Sony is a for profit, and as long as they are making a profit there are no worries. Market share/size importance varies.

#13REDACTED, Posted: Jan 10 2008 at 7:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) agree, market share size does varey in importance. and i also agree as long as their titles are profitable, they will stay around untill they are not.

Look up "Sony" and "sells EQ2 to india" and see what you find...

That's alledgedly not true, sure it's a possibility ofcourse but I do wonder how much that would alter the game if it were true.

I love this, I'm going to use this for everything that I like that doesn't sell well.

He never said there was no reason why. I don't know EQ2 that well but there's big differences between EQ and WoW which would make WoW more casual friendly and EQ appealing to a smaller group of "die hard" types.

the door is open. Blizzard blew it off its hinges. only the slow and the poor are not going to make a run at that market as hard as they can. only a fool with SOE level resources would let it pass to keep pumping out table scraps like EQ and EQ2.
Sony's Blu-ray technology just landed 70% of the movie market, my guess is that's where their resources will be going.

That's pretty much it. Just place EQII between EQ and WoW. Granted, at first EQII was also quite group focused, but they did alter that a lot.

yea, they did a fair job refocusing EQ2 toward the casual crowd. they get a little closer too with every expansion, the latest closer still than all the rest. they have reaped benifits from it too.

but not enough. adding another 50 to 60k subscribers is too little too late when your competitor lands another 2 million accounts in the same time frame.its like hiring another car sales man who increases your sales by 6 cars a month while you watch bob across the street selling so many cars he buys the other 5 dealerships surrounding yours in the same time frame.

time for new management. time for a new plan. time to either spinn off the entire department developers and all or fire them for underperforming and find some who can get you there as opposed to twinking things here and there so its "working as intended".

and what do you do with all the fantastic content you have already created? scrap it? or use it as a foundation to "get you there" a whole lot faster?

they would be absolute fools to try remaking Vanguard in the immage of either EQ1 or EQ2. bigger fools if they let all that content from their current titles, most of which has not been seen by the majority of their subscribers, fade away.

its pretty sure a given they are going to chase Blizzards market. its just a matter of if they start from scratch and waste a whole lot of time developing the foundation, or they hit the fast track and revamp and rerelease one of their current titles targeting that market. my money is on the later.

either way, i would expect something drastic to happen before this year is out. in this market, you have to hit it when its hot. you wait too long you end up with another Vanguard. a great game for a market that left for greener pastures 5 years ago.
