What are your picks?

Saturday

G1: Washington @ Seattle

Washington's been on a hot streak ever since Sean Taylor's funeral. However, they're travelling to Seattle who's got a pretty solid defense (12th against the run & 4th most sacks in the league. So-so against the pass). While I'm a big fan of Clinton Portis, unless he has an awesome game I don't see Washington taking this one. 28-17 Seattle.

G2: Jacksonville @ Pittsburgh

The Jags beat the Steelers IN Pittsburgh in December. This time, they have to do it again but Pittsburgh is down RB Willie Parker, defensive end Aaron Smith, offensive tackles Marvel Smith and Max Starks and safety Ryan Clark. And if there's further injuries in the game, the Steelers are pretty much screwed as their depth chart reads: left tackle Trai Essex, then no one. Fullback Carey Davis, then no one. & @ right tackle, there's Willie Colon, then no one.

The Jags have the running tandom of Fred Taylor & Maurice Jones-Drew and a QB in David Garrard who just doesn't turn the ball over. I'm taking the Jags 28-10.

However, as a Pats fan it should be noted that I;d much rather the Steelers win this game. I think the Pats have a much better chance against the Steelers and will be quite nervous if we have to plays the Jags in the playoffs.

Sunday

G1: Giants @ Bucs

The Jersey Giants played their best game of the season last week (even though they lost) and are riding that ego boost into Tamba Bay. However, Tamba's defence is great against the pass and Eli seems to throw INTs at the worst times. However, if the Giants play like they did last week, it could be a very close game. I'll take the Bucs 21-10.

G2: Titans @ San Diego

The Titans played a close game against San Diego earlier this season. However, Titans QB Vince Young is a game time decision. I like the Titans D, but LT makes even good defences often look silly. If Vince Young plays, it could be close again. However, if he doesn't, the Titans don't have a chance. Either way, I'm taking San Diego. 37-28 with Vinny playing, if he doesn't 42-10 Chargers.

Good thing the Jags had the refs on their side. One of the worst called games I have see since...oh, the last Patriots game.

Put the crack pipe down. Jacksonville's a much better match up by any measure. Not that it matters.

righhhht... like when hines ward was dragging the defender by the facemask and the defender got called for pass interference.

the only surprise result for me was the giants winning.

Hold on the two-point; no hold on the Jagplaythatsetthewinup. Eitherway, I just saw more calls that helped the Jags over the Steelers. That's why I don't watch much football, though. I always see things that the refs never call.

That sucked, Skins are my team. Team implosion generally but wtf was Santana doing on that give-up play? I hate him now, more than I've hated anyone.

That first Titans play was awesome, never seen the line shift to the freaking sideline like that. I feel bad for Vince Young because he gets a lot of crap. But their secondary was leaving holes that my dead grandmother could find. Terrible safety play or coverage, and they didn't seem to adjust at all.

If the Pats lose next week I'll convert to Christianity.

(If they win I'll convert to Islam and blow them up)

Well in their defense if they were strict Rulebooktutionists they'd call DBs for contact after five yards on 50% of all plays, and holding for grabbing jersies for 0.02 seconds on the other 50%. Plus they're only what, three of them? And they're universally old, white, and slow. The NFL needs some fast black officials with strong thigh muscles.

i feel your pain. Seattle has been my team as long as i have watched football. so after going through the 70s and 80s and early 90s with them i know how you feel about the skins right now.

Thanks, that's very magnanimous. Usually when I cry about the Skins someone points out our great past success and says I don't have the right to be down. In some ways that's true as I have the entire 80s and '91 to look back on.

Good luck to the 'Hawks the rest of the playoffs!

3 out of 4 aint bad. The G-Men may actually have a shot at taking down the Cowboys next week, if Eli can not turn the ball over that is....

thanks, i do not know if seattle will get any further as they are playing in green bay and that is always tough to do this time of year.

as for NY beating the cowboys, i doubt it. even if they play with the same level of fire they beat tampa with i do not think they can beat dallas.

i could be way off though.

I know. I played football for many years and there's a penalty that could be called on every play. What gets me is when the penalty is the reason the play was successful coupled with a referee watching the penalty. I'll tell you that you should be able to find a lineman holding on every play.

As it has been said, "holding in the NFL is an art" and "to be an offensive lineman, you have to be good at it (holding)."

Wedding festivities precluded me from watching the games. I only had a chance to run to the hotel bar to see the highlights.

What surprised me was that the coach didn't challenge the call on that play. Sure. You can't get the refs to *add* a facemask penalty, but it was abundantly clear on the replay that the only reason the defender ended up on the backside of the receiver without turning his head to the ball was because he was being dragged by the facemask.

Barring a claim that the defender somehow committed pass interference with his facemask, the call would likely have been reversed. And since that was a 4th down play, they would have gotten the ball on downs rather then giving the other team another 4 shots at the goal. That IMO made the difference of the game right there.

It's your team and all that, but I honestly think that the Steelers would have been just another standard combo for the Pats to face and the Pats would just outskill them in a straight matchup. Jacksonville is a *much* tougher team. They beat on the other team. Hard. And let's face it, the Pats are a finesse team. They have a mediocre running game at best, and rely on a strong set of passing threats (and Brady's fast and accurate throwing) to win games. After 2-3 quarters of his O-line getting smashed by the Jaguars rush, and his receivers getting nailed in the secondary, I'm thinking that some of that will be compromised.

At the very least, they'll be a seriously bruised team going into the championship game. I can tell you that everyone in Indianapolis and San Diego were hoping for the Jaguars to win, for exactly that reason. Whoever wins between those two teams next week can count on a banged up NE to face the week after. Which is a good thing... :)

yup if the pats do not figure out a way to slow down the defense of the jags it going to be a very long game for them and they are going to be hurting going into the next game.
#25 Jan 07 2008 at 10:12 PM Rating: Good
If the Pats D can't stop the Jags running game: it could be a good game.

If not, the Jags are screwed. Allowing the, statistically, best offense to ever play the game onto the field is not in the Jags' best interest.

this year the pats have done a rather good job at shutting down most opponents offensive weapons as most teams are just one or the other. meaning not enough teams out there have both a GREAT run and pass game. several out there have either.
