Worst Bond movie ever. Not close. Never say Never? Better. The original spoof Casino Roayle? Better. What about it did you find entertaining, exactly? Did I miss part of it when I fell asleep after 45 minutes of Daniel Craig playing with himself and trying to look hard?

Bollox! Thats like saying that Blakes 7 is better than Bladerunner FFS....

And Daniel Craig does look 'ard. You sure you saw the same film as the rest of the world?

Gotta say I loved Superbad. Mainly because the fat kid in it is the spitting image of one of my buddies. Not in looks, but in the way he acts and talks. It made me laugh my *** off.

I am Legend was ok in my book, I was disappointed with the ending as it was pretty anitclimactic. I thought it was unnecessary to CGI the zombie/infected/whatever dudes. They should have went old school with makeup and actual actors. Get off my porch!

I haven't seen too many other newer movies lately. I am looking forward to the new Batman flick, as well as the Ironman one. The trailers for both looked great.

Smash:

I too saw Gone Baby Gone. I went to it with very low expectations as it was Ben Affleck's directorial debut. Given the fact that it made sense & had decent cinematography, coupled with Ben Affleck being atleast partly responsible for those things, made it much better than I had thought it would be.

Movies I saw over the Holidays:

No Country For Old Men: Loved every second of it. People I was with? Not so much. Why? The ending, mostly. Guess some people need "happy" endings. Said people will not like anything by and/or based on Cormac McCarthy's works. Also, it's a lot funnier than the book, believe it or not.

I Am Legend: It was ok, but after finishing Cormack McCarthy's The Road I've decided that all post apacolypse movies should not have "happy" endings. "Hope" is too overused as a plot device.

AvP 2: It was better than AvP, as it was rated R as opposed to PG-13. That and the hot girl getting shanked to a wall were about the only redeeming qualities in this flick.

The Predalien was a much better idea than was it's implementation.

Fido: Who wouldn't want Billy Connoly as their pet Zombie?

Fast Food Nation: I read the book years ago and caught the movie on HBO. It's a fictional tale based on the facts presented in the book. It was a good movie, even though Avril Lavigne was in it.

Superbad: Awesome. The DVD extras were great too (More ***** pictures!) and besides HST' commentary from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, it's the only other movie I've watched with the commentary on and was entertained by it.

Yup. I like Daniel Craig, incidentally. I thought Layer Cake was about 10000 times better than Casino Royale. It's just a stupid premise conceptually. "Let's make our franchise where our super spy avoids death constantly and has unprotected sex with 10000 women a year with no consequences more *realistic*. Yeah, that's a good idea"

Agreed. Layer cake was ace.

Wich is why I thought Casino Royale was a bloody good film compared to the other ones you mentioned. Never say Never was exactly as you described, and the original casino royale was utterly crap.

I liked the new one. Fine entertainment in my opinion.

But then again I just saw Die Hard 4.0, and I thoroughly enjoyed that too.

If I want a 'realistic' film experience I'll watch a Simpsons movie..;)

Well, just to chip in. I did see Sweeny Todd last week. It was pure awesomeness, if you're good with massive amounts of blood shedding in the midst of a musical number sung by two completely amoral characters (ok. One's just got a grudge, and the other's an amoral opportunist, but close enough). It's amusing, twisted, and appealed to my sense of evil balance.

Um... And for those who haven't figured it out. Despite Johny Depp being in it, and despite Tim Burton directing, and the somewhat whimsical commercials out there, this is NOT a film to take small children to. The R rating should have been the first hint, but when I saw it (at a late show no less!), there were at least two parents who snatched their kids up and dragged them out of the theater about 25 minutes or so into the film (about when it became abundantly obvious that the price of a lifetime of therapy for the child wasn't worth the price of the ticket). Apparently, they somehow thought that this was a Disney "demon barber of Fleet Street" or something...

Heck. It was worth the price of admission just for that I guess! ;)

I sat down and watched Resident Evil and War this weekend. Resident Evil was terrible. And I love all zombie movies. Not even Ali Larter could save that movie. War on the other hand I enjoyed. Loved the plot twist at the end.

The first Resident Evil movie was surprisingly good, and I had low expectations, which made it that much better. The sequels were just terrible, and I had higher expectations, haha, so they really sucked.

If you're into mushy movies/inspirational movies, I really, really recommend August Rush. Fanfuckingtastic movie. Very, very well done. Robin Williams almost steals the show from the kids, just because you really, really hate him.

Finally got around to seeing 300 over the weekend. It, um, was not a great film Smiley: laugh

After watching it, Flea said "Are there special features? I want to hear what their excuse was..."

I thought it was visually stunning.

The wolf and the boy, the Spartans and their shields, Xerxes beauty, Leonidas nekkid buns, and one of the final 'crotch shots' of Leonidas in battle (got me all hot and bothered). Oh, and I liked the narration.

It's certainly not a compelling or intriquing storyline, not much in the way of character development (except perhaps Gorgo) but more of just a banquet for the eyes.

I think they did a good job recreating a comic.

Did you see it at a theatre?

Nah, saw it on DVD. Maybe the big screen would have made it prettier but I wasn't a huge fan of the CG-painted look anyway.

I certainly wasn't looking for a historical narrative (I know it was a comic) but the throw-away history bits detracted from it rather than added. It was internally inconsistant such as Leonidas telling mutant-boy that they fight in a strict shieldwall and any ***** will destroy them -- and then the Spartans fight as a phalanx for three minutes, spending the rest of the movie jumping, whooping & hacking with their swords like monkeys. Other bits seemed complete throw-aways: Why bother showing five seconds of elephants? "Oh, and there was elephan-- nevermind!" Shit, they should have saved the CG budget a few grand.

I suppose all can be excused with "It was that way in the comic!" but it made for a film where I spent much of the time chuckling and rolling my eyes.

Edit: I found the criticisms of American jingoism vastly overblown as well. If anyone tried using 300 as a model for American resolve against evil, my first question would be why Bush isn't out there on the front lines.

I liked 300. A lot.

But not for the same reasons as Elinda....Tho' I am a big fan of Frank Millers stories.
And I saw it at home, but i've got a big screen and sound wich makes all the difference with that type o' movie.

I guess we all see movies for different reasons.

And GWB on the front line?? About as likely as Prince Charles I should think.

(When did our glorious leaders stop being glorious??)

By the way, I'm not suggesting that Bush (or any other head of state) should be out on the front line. Just that Leonidas going on about freedom and brave men standing up against tyranny and all that would have rung a bit hollow if he concluded with "So you 300 guard this pass and die glorious deaths. I'll be back in Sparta trying to pass some tax cuts and abstinence education funding. Die bravely... ta-ta!"

Yup. I got the same kind of "huh?!" at that moment too. Only I don't think it was even 3 minutes. More like one attack comes in. They're hiding behind their shields and sticking their spears out, then *bam!* they break formation and are fighting like a band of individuals.

I get the whole "it's eye candy, and that looks better" rationale, but still. Given the massive alterations to the core material already, why not just change it so that he simply rebuffs mutant-boy because he's a mutant or something? That would have at least been consistent with the earlier part of the film where they made a huge deal about the process of weeding out the unfit in their society.

You forgot about the Rhino thing as well. They make a big deal out of this monstrosity heading towards them. Then they just kinda casually kill it, smirk, and continue on. Yes. They're Spartans. They're bad-asses. We get it. But we got it about 50 CG scenes ago. Really...

Well seriously, how much of their CG manly goodness would they be able to show behind them giant shields.

Funny I didn't notice that particular inconsistancy.
