CBC's Don Cherry spoke out in defence of New York Islanders' suspended forward Chris Simon during his Coach's Corner segment on Saturday.

Cherry empathized with Simon, saying that he understood why the forward deliberately stepped on the leg of Jarkko Ruutu of the Pittsburgh Penguins, even if he doesn't necessarily condone it.

"He broke the code, you never do anything like that, but you can understand it somehow," said Cherry.

"The last two incidents that he's done, he's got 55 games. You know how many games his victims missed? None. I'm not making excuses for it, but none."

So, what does everyone think of a potential Las Vegas team, as the rumor mill would have it.

I'm all for another team in the mix, but I have to insist LVers wear sequin jump suits. That is all.

I don't think it would do well. Once you get off the strip Las Vegas is nasty. It's just like a massive dive town. How could you support a team basing your revenue strictly on money coming in from tourists?

Or they could just give Vegas the Blue Jackets Smiley: lol

Pretty unlikely. It would be funny though, to watch games form there were the crows would cheer wildly at seemingly random events like the over/under being passed.

I've always thought that they should put a team in Houston.

Just not my team.

I saw that last night, it was quite the segment. In the context you could tell that he was disgusted with the specifics of it but he knew that Ruutu had something coming. If Simon really wanted to get Ruutu he should've grabbed him, dropped the gloves and pounded until he fell down.

I'd rather see another Canadian team, to be honest with you. Putting a team in Vegas would have short term novelty value, and you might sell out a couple of seasons, but over the long haul its just not a hockey market. More so maybe than anywhere else there is so much competing with the entertainment dollar on a day in and day out basis that filling the seats would be tough year in and year out.

Oh, and for the record, the Red Wings can kiss my f'ucking ***.

Oh right, god forbid someone should have a different opinion than you. And according to NHL TV ratings, I'm in the majority.

Well, a lot of folks want Winnipeg to get another team.

Personally, I think the only feasible choice is Hamilton.

a) You can have an opinion and suck balls. The two are not mutually exclusive. The real problem is that you can really only speak in vowels while sucking said balls, and are thusly difficult to understand.

which is a good thing, because

b) you're an overly defensive cnut who could stand to be less of a whiner.

Oh, you forgot to add that saying "bad" words doesn't make you cool. Also, it's quite an insight into your psyche that when you're presented with the chance to try to insult someone, you go right for the homosexual references.

And, what's worse, a whiner or someone whining about the whining?

I'll let you get back to your homosexual thoughts.

learn to read, junior. I insulted you by calling you a whiny cnut. I illuminated a point of quantum mechanics that flustered you to the point of an insipid opinion validity argument.

Bertuzzi never did anything prior to that to suggest he would go apesh*t on Moore. And since he's come back he's not had another incident. Simon on the other hand is a ticking timebomb.

he was suspended 10 games for leaving the bench during a fight

daimen is one of those morons who thinks the NHL doesnt exist because its not mentioned on ESPN 50 times.

Which is a fair point, but he also didn't stomp on somebody's leg with his skate Smiley: lol I personally think he's got all he had coming to him. I mean look at him before he was suspended. He was essentially one of the best power forwards in the game. He came back and now he sucks. Now that's karma for ya.

Football. Even when it's out of season, they still find ways to get Chris Berman in the studio to talk about football.

FTFY.

And as far as hockey games go, I always love to drive up to Anaheim for a game. Nothing beats a Ducks game. Just wish I had something to compare it to. It's probably insane in Canada.

Helpful hint # 271: Don't fix things unless you have some understanding of the initial reference or something funny to change it to.
