It's very workable and eliminates repeat offenders. As for the state being an accomplice, it's already been documented that they have allowed rape to occur as a means of crown control. The predators get to act out their aggression on inmates instead of guards and the ******* are too afraid to act up and cause trouble.

I find that the only people who hold such views are tiny cocked closet pedophiles grappling with their uncontrollable desires to assault children. Exclusively. There's no other people capable of holding that opinion.

Yup.

Having a 'whoops' factor in state sanctioned murder, especially when it is costs a f'uck tonne of money and man hours and has never been proved to be any means of deterrent is a bad idea. Join the rest of the 1st world countries in realizing it.

Oh and Chode, it is shame that you are as ignorant as you are stupid. Petty justice over one of the foundation stones of the American constitution. /golfclap, usually the mouthbreathers with similar ignorant as sh'it opinions keep it to the Sandbox.

Edit: Okay basically it gave me a sympathy for the criminals who committed the awful crimes like rape and murder. Most of them are a lot older than when they committed the crimes, they were young. All of the men in the show talk about how wrongheaded they were, they know they did wrong and regretted it. Most of them didn't want to be free, they thought they deserved to be locked up. Just gives you more than just their crimes.

You should have stuck with the *peep* post. "I'm an emotionally tortured old man" is no reason not to gas a guy. Having a viewpoint altering moment during a public radio piece is, however, a perfectly good excuse to nominate you for post term abortion.
#40 Dec 18 2007 at 12:09 AM Rating: Decent
I'm out of sync with this entire thread. Maybe it's because I realize that all CRIME isn't black and white, all people aren't good or evil, and all reality isn't summed up in a way that's emotionally satisfying. While the brilliant folks here try and play nice in their arguments while not trying to offend the general sentiment that every criminal is an undeniable evil ****, I try and look at reality in a realistic way. Reality and realistic go hand and hand, but that's besides the point.

I know it doesn't quite feel good to the lower functions of the brain if one tries to understand criminal acts while at the same time hating the act, it is the most rational way to approach reality. Not every person on death row is an evil **** who lived their life to destroy the world. I know the movie bad guy is an easy goto caricature, but that's not how reality works. People are so complex that it does take a lot of effort to try and understand them, especially when they do things that we can't understand from our perspective. Still the effort might be rewarded if we took the time to examine things in a way that doesn't start from the gut and end with a gun and/or a torture implement. I'm as jaded as anybody, probably more so, but I still try and look at everything, everybody, every behavior, every action, every nuance, with an empathetic and sympathetic eye. It's not easy, but it is an important step in a process called social evolution.
#41 Dec 18 2007 at 12:49 AM Rating: Decent
And, of course, the reward for such effort in our thought processes wouldn't be obvious. None-the-less, it's not about obvious benefits, it's about things that result from understanding the complexity of human behavior. After all, any student of history must be aware of one simple fact: human beings are some 'wacked out mofos'.

This fact applies to people from every socioeconomic group, every 'class' strata and every other thing one can label as generalization that result in categorical analysis of human behavior.

One can argue that no human being was ever 'wacked out', and that's obviously false. One could also argue that by using the term 'wacked out' one does not express themselves in a clear enough manner to allow a concise and clear argument about the history of humankind, and that would be obviously dependent on definitions.

Sorry, lost my train of thought. Any ways, I assume that everybody was always 'normal' and that every universal definition of 'normal' is consistent and if I assume this, everything in human behavior mathematically adds up in my brain and thus allows me to see psychology and sociology in a 2 and 2 manner. After all, people love easy and obvious answers and 2 and 2 adds up assuming we accept those symbols representing numbers that we see when our gray matter receives the info.

And, of course, my assumptions all start from a place so-called 'where I live and where I think and where I thought and where I speak and where I learn and where I yearn and where I be and where I see'. Forkitall.

Also, clearly against. The victim's retribution is rarely justice.

Yeah, thanks for that untutored opinion.

Aside from being unworkable, your idea has only a superficial applicability, and untold moral/ethical problems - the least of which being that the State becomes an accomplice to rape and mayhem.

And when we have the death penalty, the state becomes an accomplice to murder. Not to mention all the jailers directly involved.
