RiP Dan Fogelberg

Yeah, okay, I admit it. "Same Old Lang Syne" makes me cry every time.

I almost made this thread but figured that 95% of the folks here wouldn't have a clue who Fogelburg was and the other 5% wouldn't care that he's dead.

*sniffle*

I admit, I don't know a lot of his more obscure stuff. The bulk of my Fogelberg collection is the Love Songs album. But I also have his bluegrass album High Country Snows and enjoy it from time to time.

You may now commence with the banjo jokes, though the fact that I'm getting weepy for Fogelberg should, I think, grant me immunity to accusations of lesbianism.

Why make a banjo joke when the song in your thread title contains the lyric "the beer was empty and our tongues were tired"? Honestly, it would just be redundant.

My folks played a lot of Fogelberg while I was growing up, and although he wasn't my favorite by any means, I did always dig the hook in that song. Now that I'm older, and I've fUcked up a good thing or two, the song means what it was intended to, and it makes me want to kill myself for all the right reasons.

There's a special place in hell for Dan Fogelberg.

I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom
When it came my time to go
I thank you for the kindness
And the times when you got tough
And Papa I don't think I said "I love you" near enough

Just in case "Same Old Lang Syne" doesn't getcha where it hurts.

Explain it to me. Heavy metal bands on trial because kids commit suicide, what is that about? Judas Priest on trial because my kid bought the records, and he listened to the lyrics, and he go into Satan... ALLALALALALALLALA! Well that's great. That sets a legal precedent. Does that mean I can sue Dan Fogelberg for making me into a ***** in the mid '70s, is that possible, HUH?

Kind of interesting that he died from prostate cancer. That's not typically fatal.

Yeah, I gather it was pretty well advanced (metastasized) by the time it was found.

Sad. Much as I dislike most of the easy-listening music from that era, his lyrics were good and he seemed like a decent person. He was also pretty handsome, if I recall.

I used to listen to Fogelberg fairly regularly. My number one radio station I listened to in mpls played alot of his stuff. I owned High Country Snow, and still think it one of his best albums(more folksy than others). I had it in the form of cassette tape.

I had really forgotten all about him until I heard about his death this am. It's too bad. Prostrate cancer seems to be one of the more curable forms?? Smiley: frown

RIP

I use to listen to him a lot years ago. Since he isn't on any of my playlists, guess I had forgotten him, though I may dig out one of his albums just so I can get weepy over his death. Smiley: cry

Props for Denis but your style needs some work. You don't need to use the whole thing.
