But it's been canceled and moved to Friday. Apparently, some nutjob was writing bad things on the walls in the bathroom of one of the dorms, things relating to the Virginia Tech shootings, and calling black people bad names.

Quote:
NIU officials are investigating a threat posted late Saturday evening in a campus residence hall which included a racial slur and references to the Virginia Tech shootings.

Written in black ink on a restroom wall in the Grant Towers D complex were two separate entries claiming that “things will change most hastily” in the final days of the current semester.

“Tell those n---ers to go home,” the first entry reads. “ME / OUT … Die Sem Burr 10th … Hmz Sdn Cr.” Officials believe the text message-style shorthand refers to “December 10” and “Holmes Student Center.” Underlined letters within the first entry spell out the word “WATCH.”

Following the initial entry is a second set of comments reading “What time? The VA tech shooters messed up w/ having only one shooter …”

University leaders notified all students, faculty and staff about the threats through postings on the NIU website, all-campus email, voicemail, fliers and area news media. Security in and around the residence halls, student center and other campus buildings has also been increased, and the campus remains under a security alert through the end of the semester.

Stupid crazy people, messing with my weekend. Smiley: glare

I'm going to let you in on a little secret Twizzle. It's something that you will eventually learn when you finish college and have to join the real world, I know it may be disturbing and you might lose a little sleep tonight, but this is for your own good:

Friday is not part of the weekend.

At any rate, good luck on the final. Use the extra time to study MOAR. Smiley: lol

People abbreviate 'December' by typing out 'Die Sem Burr'? That sounds more like illiteracy than shorthand.

Better safe than sorry though.

One of my best friends went to Virginia Tech, and any kind of threat that isn't taken completely seriously could result in a repeat of that tragedy. I am a little pissed that my plans for the weekend are ruined now, but it's better than being dead, I guess.

It was your standard Pubbie Slippery Slope argument. Since they closed it today for this, it can only be assumed that the school will never re-open again because it will be covered in "shooting warning" graffiti.

Hopefully they'll pass a law allowing everyone to carry guns on campus, because that'll fix everything right?

By the time the Illinois legislature gets around to passing any sort of law, the rest of the country will be packing particle beam mini-cannons or something.

At the university of Winnipeg where I live they had a rash of writings threats on walls that spread over into some of the local high schools. Nothing happened, but it was still taken very seriously, and quite a few people got caught. That's good but it was very inconvenient and annoying. Thank goodness it was during the middle of term and not during exams, it only lasted two or three weeks.

Campus was re-opened today, although it seemed like a ghost town, which might have had something to do with the icy conditions, but I doubt it.

One of my finals has been completely canceled due to Monday's lockdown, and University officials have decided that students who do not attend their final exams will receive an Incomplete grade, pending some type of make-up final that they can work out individually with their professors.

To be honest, I'm glad that NIU took the situation so seriously, but besides rescheduling the Monday finals that were missed, they haven't seemed to do anything else about it. I'm trying to determine exactly what made them suddenly decide that campus was safe again, but so far, I haven't found anything.

In either case, one final down, one canceled, and two left until a month of freedom.

Pssh, I remember having bomb threats at our high school and all they did was put a rug outside the door to cover it up. All you had to do was wonder what the f*ck a rug was doing OUTSIDE the front doors to the high school and lift it up to look under and you'd see the bomb threat spray painted on the ground.

School never did blow up though, and I feel a tad disappointed as a result. Wuss.

Sidenote: Did anyone know that the teenage shooter that killed 8 people and then himself in a mall in Omaha, Nebraska was not only "going out in style" but trying to beat Cho's high score?
